| Stretching 10:00 [0] | ||
| Very late when I couldn't sleep. Stretched the hams and piri's. | ||

| Tarrywile Pavi Score-O - 75, very humid and wet but no rain.
Another interesting Pavi twist: 20 controls in groups of 5 numbered 31 to 50. Score is the integer digit times 10, as in 31 is worth 10 pts. Get all controls in a group before moving on and get bonus of double pts for the last control. Of course the highest value wasn't normally the natural exit route from the group, so extra running. 90 minutes with an unspecified penalty for lateness. I got all but two in my last group and almost made it in in time. Good fun. Good running in parts of these woods. Plus lots of fun climbing. Of course the new shoes weren't too kind to the blisters on my heels and both got re-aggravated, mainly when going uphill. But climb at Tarrywile? Actually I think she forgot a hill. ADD 9/15: Finally measured distance (straight line) and my route climb. Blisters still hurt and prevent running.

| Trail run tempo 55:00 [4] | ||
| weight:143lbs shoes: Mudclaw O | ||
| Horse Tr - Purple loop in rev (two hs girls headed off the normal way, so didn't want to chase, or appear to, chase them) - 70, clear, mostly dry.
Afternoon run, solo second shift. Trying out the new shoes: was concerned that they bothered the R heel blister when I first tried them on. Filed it down yesterday and was better today. Shoes have a low heel though and so a low heel box. Plus I have funny heels. So HTFU. Anyway shoes felt ok today so thought I'd give them a shot. Weren't too good on the first road part of the run but don't expect to use them much on roads. Ok on the trails, esp the loose stuff, roots, rocks, and sloped sides of the trail. Manage on the hard pack. And in the final stretch, bushwacked through the back woods where they performed well, even stepped on a wet log or two with no slippage. And they were an incentive to push the pace having one of the quickest runs on this route for a while. AOWN - Chased a pileated woodpecker along the trail for a bit - bright red head, fun.
| Stretching 20:00 [0] | ||
| Evening, soothing the back and tight hams. | ||

| Inspection time - Off this morning to check out another place. More impressed with this one, almost to the point of sending in a deposit. However the real challenge is to overcome the "I want to go home" song that has become a repetitive drill. A bit more time perhaps.
Afterwards took her to the Mall to look for some decent shoes, has only one pair, and perhaps some clothes though that will have to wait for a time with more patience, while I went by the Apple store to try to get Touched again with the latest upgrade. They can't do it. Has to be done on my computer. And there are new software upgrades out, both for Tunes and Touch. Go home and try. If they don't work come back and we'll try to fix it. Of course, came home and it crashed, just like the last two times I tried. This time Apple has up-to-date help pages that recognize the problem. After trying several without success, as a final try changed the USB port used (as suggested). It worked! So I'm a semi-believer. We'll have to see how robust this new upgrade is. AOWN: As we headed off first thing, passed a coyote just down the street on the verge and edge of a field overgrown with goldenrod. It ducked back into the field as I slowed down to check it out. A mile or two down the road there was a flock of 6 or 7 turkeys grazing in another field, picking over the remants of the broad-leafed tobacco harvested last month?

| Trail run 1:05:00 [1] | ||
| weight:144lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII | ||
| Horse-Purple loop - 50, clear with early morning humidity.
Early morning before things stirred so we got away for a nice run. Lyn suggested a few strides midway through. That was good to up the pace a bit and made for a nice effort. Finished down the final road trying to remember the Oviatt foot work which managed to pick up the pace a bit.

| Hiking 30:00 [1] | ||
| weight:143lbs shoes: Salomon XA Pro | ||
| Mowing M's lawn - a real chore today as it was a hurry to beat an approaching thunderstorm and the self-propel mowers have one speed- slow. So I kicked it out of gear and pushed the damn thing, about twice the speed, and finished just as the light rain turned to a downpour. | ||
| Stretching 20:00 [0] | ||

| Would it be legitimate to create a training category for angst? These days it seems to fill the day, would become one of the all time highest logs. | ||

| Early morning on the bed at Ken's. Not quite the same, but need to keep doing it.
After we got home, spent quite a bit of time in the afternoon trying to get pine pitch off the tent tarp. Lot of weeping from the trees. Tried using GooBGone which seemed to neutralize the stickiness and hopefully didn't affect the water shedding ability of the tarp. This was the first trial of this tent, the replacement for the one lost in airplane space last summer returning from Scotland. It passed with flying colors. In fact much better than its predecessor. It's the same model, just a few years newer. The kinks that led to leaks in the older version seem to have been addressed. Well done REI.
