| Road run warm up/down 25:00 [1] | ||
| weight:145lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII | ||
| 20' before/5' or so after - Jogging around the parking area plus some stretching. | ||
| Road run race 22:59 [4] 5 km (4:36 / km) vdot: 42.3 | ||
| shoes: DS Trainer XII | ||
| David Vidal 5K - 45, grey, wet roads as had sprinkled during the warm up.
Got into a reasonable rhythm and was able to hold it mostly with only slight sag. Still seemed like a long way, and not a single swamp. Boring. Still feeling the affects of the cold, though it's mostly gone from me and on to Lyn a little but more to Mom - that's worrisome. Almost a minute better than last year's time of 23.51 when I was pretty beat up. The stretch work on the hips has definitely been beneficial. Still managed a 22.04 the first time we ran this in '05. 2nd M60-69. Lyn had another good run, 22.34. Couldn't stay with her. We were together at one mile and then she gradually worked on ahead. Managed to take 3" off last year's time. She was the first/only in her age group and 4th woman. Splits: 7.11; 7.29; 8.21 (no 3 mile mark)

| AOWN - Had a visitor looking for lunch. Spent quite a while hanging around including an attempt. Don't think it got anything though. | ||

| Trail run 36:00 [1] | ||
| weight:145lbs shoes: Mizuno Inspire | ||
| Beaver Tr - 57, clear, crisp. Nice day for a run but the body just wasn't with the program today. Felt really spacey, a side effect from the Theraflu. Took another this morning, the day variety. Suppresses the cough, runny nose etc but suppresses the body as well.
This was a nice run under the circumstances and nice to get out. The fresh air helps clear the head. Somewhat of a plod going out but better coming back. Did a couple sets of strides coming back. They weren't really fast but at least picked up the pace a bit. Tomorrow may try a 5k in town. Would be a struggle under these conditions but it's a nice course and the weather should be great.
| Hiking 10:00 [1] | ||
| Raking a small section of leaves and then mowing in the afternoon. Really nice fall day with leave crunching under foot. A great time of year. | ||

| Strength 10:00 [0] | ||
| weight:145lbs (sick) (rest day) | ||
| Turned over the two compost piles and that was about it. Then had coffee and went to the library. Head is still congested and feels like a lump, even more than normal. Took a Theraflu last night and again this morning. They seem to staunch the nose drip and alleviate the cough. But they were the non-drowsy variety and I couldn't sleep last night. So was up from around 1 till affer 3 watching seemingly junk - like the Daily Show, Colbert, bits of the debate on tape intertwined with CNN mobs of talking heads telling me how well/poorly the ____ (enter name of the other party candidate) did on this or that issue or appearance. Seems like maybe Palin overplayed the hockey mom bit a little but Biden didn't get too over bearing and lecturing. Saw enough and staggered up to bed eventually.
Tonight will try some night dose T'flu. Soon.

| Cycling (Road) 48:00 [1] 10.8 mi (4:27 / mi) | ||
| weight:144lbs (sick) | ||
| W Simsbury loop/no hills - 56, sunny to start but rain shower got us at the turnaround and continued most of the way home. As temp<60, it was tights and long sleeve shirt with nylon vest. Wasn't enough once the rain got me wet as the sleeves got quite chilly with the wetness. So cut the ride short. Just as well as was the first ride in quite a while.
Cold a bit better. Took an extra vit C and regular doses of aspirin.
| Note | ||
| Edited the map reference of Tuesday to eliminate the Google stuff (I think). | ||
Wednesday Oct 1 | ||
| Trail run long 57:00 [1] 8.43 km (6:46 / km) +270m 5:50 / km | ||
| weight:144lbs shoes: Mudclaw O | ||
| Mcleans - Y - Blue tr and various side trails - 65, clearing, wet.
Easy cruiser through trails I needed to map with the gps. Lyn went to the Y to swim but wasn't into it so ran, nice steady pace checking out these sections. ow trying to download into Sporttracks but the background maps don't show up, even though I fell for the donate ruse.
| Strength (Garden) 10:00 [1] | ||
| More cleaning up, turning over more gone sections and seeding with winter rye. | ||
| Note | ||
| (sick) | ||
| Attacked by a head cold in late afternoon, or was it ledft over swamp skung? Had been gradually getting more sniffly during the day and it finally was there. So took an extra g of vit C after dinner before ice cream. | ||
Tuesday Sep 30 | ||
| Trail run (Therapy run) 39:00 | ||
| weight:146lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII | ||
| Beaver Trail o/b - 70, grey, humid
After a long day of eldercaring, I felt like a nice nap or a beer when we got home. Lyn suggested a run - what an evil influence. So off we went, very lethargic start - both from the day and still tired from the weekend. But after our stretches, started to feel better and by the time we were heading back along the trail I felt pretty good and did several pick ups of 30-40". Nice, a good stride, and felt like it was coming back together. Legs tired still but got a good effort in also along the road home as Lyn decided to pick it up a bit too.
| Note | ||
| The infamous Adventure - It really was great fun. Though I started to question the route after a while.
The map is the Green Y course. We had the leg from their Control #5 to their Control 3. My route is shown as black arrows and a pink line for the off-trail section. Edit - OK, fixed the picture/map. Should be viewable without the Google stuff.

| Evening stretch. Tired. Sore triceps from two falls during Sunday's excursion.

| Note | ||
| Today was travel and de-skung day. A thorough hosing was required to chase the ghosts of the swamp rats from our respective shoes, socks and various garments. Decontamination teams have been carefully assembled to try to contain the remaining toxic residues, rather like toxic mortgages presumably. | ||
