Orienteering (Ultra-Long Training) 2:08:21 [3] 20.49 km (6:16 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talons

Take that achilles!
Nah, achilles felt pretty good so I decided it needed trying out today, I hadn't realised this was an Ultra-Long Orienteering, and thought it was just a Long run with the OLGY, but I was wrong, which meant I got to run this compassless and without long socks, ah well though.
We started the first 2 loops behind Tomas, the coach, and not allowed passed. I could navigate here and follow where we were, but I did not get many chances to navigate into the circle as I was a bit back and everybody had hit the control quite obviously by the time I got there.
A very short break between the 2nd and third loops ended quicker than I was expecting and I was a bit back here. At this stage, we could set whatever pace we wanted. But Hubacek had started a little after me too and passed me, a nice route into the number 1 on this loop meant we passed a few who had gone a little too left, and even nicer for the 2nd part of this leg meant we passed some who seemed to cut in off the road very early. I really enjoyed getting to run behind him and see how he orienteered and ran through the forest. Very fluidly was the answer, he was strong, but wasn't having to work to run fast and had a very nice motion through the forest, quite bouncy as if hopping through. I stayed within about 20m for much longer than I expected, but at number 2 on this 3rd loop he left me, with the other runners in front set firmly in his sights. After this I spent a fairly long section orienteering by myself, and felt quite confident and happy with the speed I was now keeping, and got numbers 3 - 5 just as I had planned to. Although I did notice 3 or 4 other runners coming into number 4 a minute or so after I did. On the short jog between the last two loops I stopped short of the map as I crossed an early train track which I presumed to be mine, but things didn't match up here. So I waited, and found Conor and 3 of the others caught up, and they knew we were short of the final map. When we got there, after a few drinks, I took a different route from the others, although Conor came the same way as me. I was really happy here, and was able to navigate well in the somewhat more vague and tricky area than that of the third loop. And got the navigation fine through here as well, but was becoming noticably tired and did begin to slow and even walk one or two small pieces.

Wow, that was a lot of writing. An enjoyable session though, and the only time I had any trouble with the Achilles was a brief moment on the first loop where I dropped back a little to be safe, but it was fine a minute later.
