Paddling race (Riverboard and Kayak) 5:00:00 [4] ** 25.0 mi (12:00 / mi)
spiked:2/2c

Race Started with a Riverboard jaunt for 2.5 miles, followed by a white/flat water paddle. The riverboarding was fun, but I lost a strap on my flipper in the first 100 meters. Didn't help me much, but didn't hurt that much either. In the end, I lost the flipper.

The whitewater portion of the paddle was a lot of fun. No close calls. The flat water river paddle was similar to MN, only much more scenic.

Orienteering race 6:20:00 [3] **** 9.3 mi (40:52 / mi)
shoes: Soloman XT Wings S Lab 3

A trek on top of Poison Spider Mesa. Really got in to some cool terrain here. Left the TA and took a well defined trail to the Corona Arch. We passed through the arch and continued to the queue at the via ferrata. The first wait. GPS shows no movement for 50 minutes as we waited in line...

On top of the Mesa.... welcome to the moon. We had 5 checkpoints to attain. 2 hour penalty for every miss. Working off an aerial photo. Our first foray on to the slick rock had some scary moments. Cathy froze up for 10 minutes. We ruled out two of the controls due to our long wait at the via ferrata. We located the first with some trouble, the second was easier, but involved some following. The third control we weren't able to locate. We were about 500 meters off.... on a control placed 100 meters from the edge of the map. Tough to relocate. I realized my error on the way to the rappel. It is always easy when you can't get there from here....

Made it to the traverse with no issue. 350' across, 200' deep, 45 minute queue. Fun and fast. I think I set a world record as the last one of my team across and we needed to hustle to make the cut off at the rappel.

We hustled to the rappel, and beat the cut off by 18 minutes. We wait, and wait, and at the cutoff time, are told we don't get to do the rappel. We argue, they are confused, etc. Short story, we had to do a 25' trek back wards to get to a point where we could head back to the TA.

Tough navigation in this section.... but a fun experience.

Cycling race 16:00:00 [5] *** 65.0 mi (4.1 mph)
spiked:8/10c shoes: Sidi Dragon 2

Short description of the cycling. Road ride from TA to TA. The cycle/trek rogaine was on the Slickrock trail above Moab. Good fun, tough navigation on another moonscape in the dark. We made a nav error that cost us time, but we found all the controls with only one slight issue. The nav error involved missing a few intersections (paint on the rock) which required a back track and alternate (not rideable) route to the remaining controls.

Back at the TA, we were given the last CP, a 25 mile route that took us from 4750' to 8400' and back to 4000'. The altitude got to Nick pretty bad, and took the fight out of the rest of us. This was about a 5 hour effort. up, up up, then zoom to the finish.

Soccer 25:00 [3]

4-2 loss to a team we were tied with entering the match. The score doesn't reflect how close the game was. We lead at half, 1-0. I took a cleat to the knee in the first half, so chose to play up in the 2nd half and got a flukey loopy header for my first goal of the season.
