Running 2:50:00 [3] 20.0 km (7.1 kph)
shoes: Brooks - Adrenalin ASR 5

St Ives to Bobbin Head and back. Rugged trails and sore legs. Had a great run and used the map (which was old and well out-of-date) well. The first of many longer missions with Lucas.

Saturday Mar 20, 2010 #

Riding - Road 2:15:00 [3] 60.0 km (26.7 kph)

St Ives > Church Point > Duffy's > St Ives.

Later ride, thought it would have been hotter. Big ring the whole way. Was fine, but the hill back up to Terry Hills was tough.

Running race 43:19 [4] * 9.1 km (12.6 kph)
spiked:18/30c shoes: Nike - Moto +5

Summer Series event - 45 minute Rogaine format.

Actual route - http://www.mapmyrun.com/route/au/drummoyne/2831268...

This was the first event I've done in a while, I loved it. The people, course and weather were amazing. The nav was okay, the planning needs a bit o work.

I planned a good route, it was just too long. Either I thought I was a bit fitter than I was or the area was bigger than I thought. It was a little of both I suspect. In talking to a few guys before they mentioned that you should be able to get all of them, turns out everyone under estimated it.

Positives:
- I feel I planned a good route and was able to make changes (i.e. shorten it) on the fly.
- Was thinking about my exit/next control 20 seconds before I hit the previous. It was nice to nail it and run on with confidence.
- A few times I stopped, walked, and read the map. On one occasion it saved me from taking a wrong turn and ending up at the bottom of a hill I needed to be at the top of.
- I had a great time.
- I used 43:19 of the 45 minutes. It was a hard slog into the wind on the way home but worth the suffering.
- I could have done better on the execution, but I ran hard.

Things to watch:
- When you feel goofy, that's because you are goofy. Missing #10 (which was 30m off the road I was running down) was a huge mistake. All I needed to do was look at the map. Instead I was, well, who knows where my head was.
- On the home stretch I missed #27. It was 100m back track and I made the call (after some thought) to head for home and nail the time. I missed 30 points... Was it worth it? Could I have made it?
- Don't go out too hard. I was excited and ran like a bullet. My legs soon put the breaks on that.

In summary, I wish these events were closer... Looking forward to the 6 hour with Lucas in April.
