Road Ride (on the MTB) 2:00:00 [1]

spin, spin, spin, easy gears.

I have officially changed the sketchy part of my commute! Once I cross to Ontario, there is an option to stay right --this is one of those things that I have been meaning to try and I think I have in the past and forgot about it -- sheesh, nothing like a wake-up call to change things. Way safer and may even be faster! (certainly not faster this morning though ;-)) Thank you Relentless, for the tip!

Note

Keep finding more ticks despite all of the thorough checks, shower etc...gross. I think they are falling from my hair which I have checked twice and of course washed, brushed etc.. but who knows, I could be wrong about that. I went to occupational health and safety at work ( hospital) to use some tweezers to remove the latest find and freaked out the nurse...too funny. and they don't even have a sharp pair of tweezers! they were rounded and did a crappy job with the removal. I am dying my hair on Thursday -- hopefully that will kill off any remaining -- should I warn my hairdresser?

Adventure Racing race 23:50:00 [3]

Planet Adventure 30hour in Paoli, Indiana with RTNX teammates. Beautiful area, fun tough course, 3rd place finish -- more to come.

Road Ride (on the MTB) 50:00 [1] 17.0 km (2:56 / km)

into work with my bike for this weekend's race as I meeting up with kpoire to start the drive after work. I dropped off all of my stuff at his place last night. In terms of the bike, the new brake pads that I installed on the weekend were causing it to rub but after adjustments last night, all good to go!

In other news, I had the closest call of my life on the ride to work today.

(I've had two accidents while riding on a bike but both have been with relatively slow moving vehicles -- so I've been lucky.)

This was a classic example of never assuming that even when you shoulder check and there isn't a car coming, that could easily change in a heartbeat. There is a small section of my commute that merges onto sidewalk once I cross the MacDonald-Cartier bridge from Quebec to Ontario. I usually ride that slowly, shoulder check and then hop off the curb to get on the road ASAP. and that's exactly what I did. There wasn't a car coming when I checked and then what felt like a second later there was and it was coming at high speed. I didn't notice/hear it until it flew by me, only inches away. Anyhow, was not hit, but I definitely played a role in this happening as it's easy to miss a car not coming as it's a slight decline and probably could not see cars from a little further back. I waved off the driver and yelled "sorry" and didn't think there was any point in doing any more. Hopefully they will be more careful as well. I was definitely shaken up though. I've been thinking about changing this section of my commute (or approaching it differently, like walk my bike for a bit) because I think it could be safer (and it's also illegal) and now I have all of the motivation in the world to change it. The problem is I hate wasting time when trying to get to work but that seems silly when you think of the consequences.

Grateful that I am ok! Ride and drive safe everyone!

Trail Run 1:13:00 intensity: (40:00 @1) + (20:00 @2) + (10:00 @3) + (3:00 @4)

run with xc zone -- was feeling peppy as Nev-monster witnessed but of course Dave was taking it easy...finally decided to just go ahead of Dave but Activesteve and I took a wrong turn somewhere but then we saw the group and caught up to them by darting out of the bush much to their surprise. Lots of nettles, good times anyway!
