Event (SL 5 - Baal Bone Junction) 1:29:33 [3] *** 4.17 km (21:28 / km) +85m 19:29 / km
spiked:9/14c

A very intimidating scenario for today. Firstly the 500m, 110 m climb to the start in very cold conditions. Long first leg across vague terrain but managed it fairly well. #2 pulled up early (in loads of rock pagodas) but got onto a train who thought they knew where they were going. They didn't but I did find the control before some. I was rather disappointed that I had passed by it (between 2 rock faces 4m high - but weren't they all?) but the control was very neatly placed behind a tree. Then a scary section with a sheer rock face of I guess 100m if I continued to take the lower route to #3, so climbed back up and went over the top of the bare rock to find the shallow gully. #4 I visited via another termite mound and was perfectly on line just way too high. #5 fine #6 going along with RP and it felt way too far but the terrain looked right. Found it in "stuff". Around, up and over then contour to #7 - good work there. Stumbled along trying to contour to #8 and ended up being a bit slow, but I was accurate. Over to #9, a bit wayward but again control was in "stuff". Longish vague leg to #10 but collected dam on way so spot on. By this time my right shoe was feeling a bit funny. About half way to #11 the sole was really flapping so I removed it. But I lost concentration and wandered around for a few minutes. Then motors revved up along the track to peel off to the gully for #12. #13, #14 and Finish all pretty ordinary and compared with the other controls pretty bland.
Strangely I felt more pleased with this course than yesterday's. My only disappointment was that 2 controls were behind trees and 3 were eg 0.7m termite mound in grass that was mostly over 1m in height.
Then the 500m walk back from the remote finish was a chance to cool down in the wind. I didn't mind this but with the nuh control sites in the end of the course they could well have ended up closer. So by the end my feet were really suffering, especially with a lot less cushioning on my right foot.
Grahame D did a good job with our course, I thought. A goodly amount of challenge with a little bit of respite.

Event (SL 4 - Falnash) 52:51 [4] *** 3.3 km (16:01 / km) +85m 14:11 / km
spiked:10/12c

Flat out Falnash, but it didn't snow. Good course except for me misunderstanding what one of the man-made features was. Since when does a pile of sticks constitute a man-made feature (ignore Course info that's when). I went within 5 m and noted -ooo there's a lot of sticks together. Relocated from my old friend a native cherry tree.
Dead on bearing for next control but no flag at termite mound. Disappointing so pressed on to next termite mound but no sign so bailed and went to drinks to relocate. Saw a train coming down the hill in the right direction so went to control, but it seemed too close. Took it anyway, but found out later that I had gone to correct termite mound in the first place and the control was on the wrong one. Recovered and nothing eventful for the rest of the course. Quite liked it despite the mishaps. Happy to grab 2nd, thought points aren't great. A bit restricted in leg but toes OK. Certainly cold enough to not worry about icing, but will stretch.

gym class (Fat Burner) 50:00 [4]

Solid class; arms feeling the effects of yesterday's class; slight twinge in top of L calf, so stopped, stretched and panicked. Bit tentative afterwards but worked its way out. Slightest twinge in R glut - sounding a right croc now - but maybe heightened because of events over weekend. Ended class well so went for a run on the track, again counterclockwise and it really does feel better. Even contemplated a second lap. Crunch going to come in 4 weeks when my other favourite class at my other gym starts up again.
10 AM

Strength (Chisel) 12:00 [3]

Thought it was going to be a bit light on but the last set was a doozey.

gym class (Body Pump) 1:00:00 [3]

While driving to the gym the phrase " active recovery" crossed my tiny little brain. This I can justify sometimes but lately that's what Body Pump has become. So today a very concerted effort to make it a class in its own right.
Hence upped weights for chest, back, triceps (what am I doing???) and hence biceps. Felt like I've achieved something today - so all good.
Great news as on leaving gym I ran into Liv, minus baby who is now 10 weeks old. Liv will be back teaching in 3-4 weeks time! Fantastic news for us.

gym class (Cross Trainer) 1:00:00 [5]

I was a bit sceptical at the start as I have been a bit dizzy on and off over the past 24 hours and you certainly need to be fighting fit to do a Cory class. She does an amazing job in working us to the brink. It's not often I class a 5 intensity as I am naturally conservative but I let fly today and was rewarded well and truly. The number for today was 100 - made up of 40,30,20,10. Even though i had to modify burpees to protect my foot - still worried there - it was still tough to do squat jumps - so many. But I found that while I was slow in the 40 and 30 sections I was faster in 20 and 10 and to my great surprise I was first out the door on the run and even better I was second back. So pleased. Hope it is similar next week as junior may be joining me.

gym class (Shape and Tone) 45:00 [3]

Got going fairly quickly - had to as I was a little late. Discovered I can do 1 leg hovers. All this time I've been protecting my R foot because of the stress fracture and wussing out and going to knees and now I find I could actually do 1 legged one. Woo hoo.
4 PM

gym class (Step Up and Legs Go) 1:00:00 [4]

Excellent class with a goodly number of participants. Legs section relegated to just 10 minutes so not too bad I guess.
Feeling a bit headachy tonight - probably a bit sleep deprived after last night's marathon.
