Event (NOY 7 The Chimney) 1:34:13 [3] *** 3.4 km (27:43 / km)
spiked:9/14c
Challenging area but not overwhelming. Roberts crew did an excellent job in finding control sites - I didn't sometimes.
#1 - found pit/depression perfectly and was around trudger who found one too. Fortunately for me I checked codes and it wasn't mine; he took off. I needed to relocate from track to get mine. Just a little wobble, bit of time lost.
#2 - good attack point and knew I was right in the area but grazed past control - so used track again and found it. Pleased I'd picked well, disappointed I'd missed it.
#3better
#4 crossed w/c system noting that a control on the opposite side would be my #7 - for later reference otherwise good
#5 - good
#6 very pleased
#7 - fiddled on and was probably 100m south and then decided I could go even further to have a look - but all the time had a niggling feeling was further N. I finally listened to self and found it. On leaving I noticed it was my #7 - ho hum!
#8 -decided against the long and pointless cross country leg so used tracks fairly wisely - spike, but wimpy
#9 hit attackpoint spot on but must have drifted. Met up with rockman heading south and quick hello and continued on but must have grazed the mound with the control on the other side. North to track then hey what's a bit more green - maybe I'll go back south and make use of that clearing and oh yes that might even be a different attackpoint and there is that @#$%^& mound and let's see what's on the other side.
#10 - across cleared track and picked well here
#11 - back across the cleared track again and right to control
# 12 - back across the cleared track - picked well
#13- didn't bother going out onto cleared track just belted way through as by now trudger was hot on my tail and as we had started together "it" was on. Think I made about 15m on him here and punched and bolted as fast as I could.
#14 - cross country and hit track and was just about to punch but found it was wrong control - oh probably on the VE or E so plunged into mottled green searching expecting trudger to come through. Found lots of high grass but no control - waved the white flag and went out to relocate from finish banner and saw trudger running up finish Chute. Oh well - that's my stupidity.
F - downloading with trudger in front - oops he had mispunched way back at that very first control!
Not fast at all today - foot very niggly and the hard rocky ground didn't help.
But was quite demoralised upon looking at Results - way way down. I didn't feel I could have run either, but maybe immune system still down.
But caught up with Lyndy just home from O-Ringen and had a look at the maps and stuff. She is just so geed up. Lovely end to the day. And she brought me home a pressie - lucky me.
