Newcastle AASC "Event" Day (seeing as how I'm not allowed to call it a Gala Day) in very windy but thankfully sunny conditions. All 3 schools arrived - yipee with 42 AASC kids. The advanced games were met with delight, the Relays were hard fought with lots of strong inter-school competition. But what they were really hanging out for was the course - the longest line course possible. I was nervous because this would be the litmus test of what I'd been doing for the last term. Did they go! Did they love it! Did they orienteer? You bet! They are much better out of their own school - they had to use their maps and so they did. Happy, red, sweaty faces and huge smiles. Staff in awe, teachers so proud and MO and I exhausted but so happy.
That was the morning! then in the afternoon we had 65 novice kids so a very different experience.Having to almost do speed orienteering in a crash course so games to learn about directions, relays and punching in a box let alone actually reading a map. A Scatter course was thought to be ideal and so it was. Best responses to the afternoon-
Fifth boy to finish. Jared is a hard to handle Yr 6 boy!
Jared:I made a big mistake.
Me: How did you? You are back really quickly.
Jared: I should have done this for AASC. This is the best! Are you coming back next Term? Can I do it?
Me: That's nice. Glad you enjoyed it
Jared: Enjoyed it? It's awesome.
Days like today are very rewarding.
Tired "as" and glad the day is over.
