street run (Lakelands) 45:40 [4] 4.78 km (9:33 / km)
shoes: bright pink
Cooler by recent standards and with rain earlier in the day and still overcast no chance of humidity dissipating. Just as I was driving in I noticed a father and daughter from parkrun walking towards assembly so I made a quick dash to catch them and welcome them. I ended up doing their intro which was really good and I think they were happy.
So this map is a slight rejig to avoid crossing a very busy road (with sad consequences 2 years ago for a young girl going to swim training). While there is an unavoidable hill or two or three, they weren't horrible. Shane set a very interesting challenge - close in where there is a real nest of streets and two straight street sections where the runners could let loose. To the N of the nest of streets there was also a green belt with no controls, so just a transport leg really. Maximising points was the name of the game, but the nest provided a myriad of routes possible - lovely!
I decided not to go around and work my way through the middle, but to go through and branch off. But still some challenges. I also wasn't sure which tinytoes was going to show up today - the running one, the hoppity jog or worst the walker. Fortunately the running one was available.
S-get hill over early - 1E - 2H- - loved this bit with a pathway behind houses 1A-3C- do I get 2M now - no on way back 1G- Katrina looks very confused - 2N up and over past the OOB which is where I came past on the Rogaine (oops no it wasn't) 3D - 2M - going really well for time so I'll add in - 2M-2D-1K-2L- reassessment of return now but oh how easy that meant I could pull in the 2 and 3 pointer from this angle rather than 2 out- and- backs from the top- hello to my parkrun converts who were having such fun -1J-2E-3H- I really do have only 5 mins left? - do I get 1D and get back with 3 mins to spare or go for the long range 3J and blow a point? Go for it... back past 1E hello - down hill, across the lush green playing field, down stairs, up stairs and back with my eyes firmly fixed on sal. ahead but she was only walking (that didn't look good) - F.
Very happy with the additional points and with eventual placing. Mind you all the big guns were no shows for various reasons - I think Clare W won!!! but still % was good (28/44)- Thomas did really well 41.
Suddenly the season is almost over with just another event to go + presentation. Much rumblings about pointscore manipulations - see Peter G knew what he was on about! Lots of chat afterwards about parkrun launches and hot campervans with no airflow. Probably this summer wasn't a good ad!
