warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Not quite enough as was caught up with visitors to Callaghan and no sign of parkrun set up at 7:35. Not cancelled due to water over course so then thought it may have been an April Fool's Day joke - ha ha no cones - find your own way. Did do about 10 mins however and felt OK but probably more needed. Always a bit wary going to loos as they are underground but today was a bit Hitchcockesque - I startled a young magpie which was flying around in the toilet area and smashing into the mirrors trying to get rid of that other pesky bird. Tried to shoo it towards the door and an escape but being a bird-brain it just flew backwards and hit the mirror again. Poor birdy. Decided I should leave and let it calm down.
Was thinking of a few feeble excuses for a poor run today - wardrobe malfunction - shorts are good enough for gym but not for running - slowly heading towards the ground. Legs feeling not too bad after yesterday's gym class. Weather good so no joy there as far as an excuse. Oh well, just gotta own it!

Park Run (Callaghan) 37:52 [4] 5.0 km (7:34 / km)
shoes: bright pink

Start-steps Rainforest walk -10:53 Not a good start at all compared with last week.

Steps - cone 7:41 (18:34) A few seconds better but not great but felt really good with breathing through the rainforest section - not even hard breathing so I tried to tell myself if breathing OK then legs will be likewise. Ran all way up last track hill and about 1/4 of Engineering Hill.

Cone - steps Rainforest Walk 7:09 (25:44) Not many people around now so could enjoy the bush. Focussed on ground most of the way - different trick.

Steps - Finish - 12:08 (37:52) Best time for this section in a while which is weird. Achieved a few more bits up hills this week.
Nice chat afterwards with 5thirty runner from Sydney who is up for the HilltoHarbour tomorrow and has done quite a few parkruns, and launches.
Mossies a bit fierce today.

Very green, very thick and very tall -> very green, very thick and not quite so tall. Also did some slashing but more needed. Gave pertinent advice to nice next door neighbour re chopping down his hedge.

Note

Thumb feeling a little more normal - perhaps the new treatment on the back of the old treatment is working. Still not in open territory yet, sleeping with it in a splint.

gym class (Body Sculpt) 1:00:00 [4]

Shoulders and legs - honestly is there anything else??? Time really flew in this class. part was in team of 2 and I jagged Kimi which was great. Alternate 60-40-20 secs of pushups then later of squats counting as we went. For a very first time in any of Liv's classes the non-active person was allowed to do nothing!! maybe count and support and urge on team mate. Felt not too bad in the sprint sections too - even a change of pace.

Note

Rethink on thumb injury. GP wants to buy into the discussion. It is getting stronger but still some loss of tone (expected with 6 weeks immobiisation) and lack of movement, with and without pain.
GP, as am I, not willing to go the cortisone injection route. Physio is.

gym class (Body Pump) 1:05:00 [4]

I didn't mention in yesterday's log that one segment of the workout was 50-40-30-20-10 of lunges on each leg on a step. This makes it 150 on each leg and we did that 3 times.I thought nothing of it until today during the lunge segment.
I also didn't mention the 10-10-10 of biceps upper, lower and full range which we did 3 times and the 10-10-10 of shoulder press, side raise and front raise which we did 3 times and finally all this compounded to really burn out the shoulders. When it came to shoulders today - I was feeling it for sure.
I can usually "feel" a class the next day, but it not have any impact. Yesterday was the exception. Methinks tomorrow will be a rest day, even accounting for hospital 9:45-3:00.

gym class (Body Step) 55:00 [3]

This was a blast from the past - literally. Someone from my gym mentioned that she was going to Step classes for free at another gym on a March promo. As today wasn't a scheduled O day and I've been missing my Step classes I decided to turn up. No problems and in I went. Then the sad part started. The old gym has had a big facelift having been taken over. But of the total 8 people in the room during the class - Sarah and I were freebies, and I recognised 4 others (who were set up in the familiar positions from 5-15 years ago) and so that left a total of 2 new people. Nobody seemed to acknowledge this was an unusual number.
Then the music started. The instructor (mine from many years ago) was as bright as usual and even though it was Les Mills Body Step which has certain regimentation required I thought it might have been updated too with music. But nup still same old same old. That also had some advantages as I was a little rusty but quickly picked things up. Had it been freestyle I would have been very happy.
So i was pleased to have the mental stimulation of Step but was a little deflated and really appreciate my current gym and its fabulous instructors.
