Event (SL9 - Rolling Stones) 39:04 [4] *** 2.1 km (18:36 / km) +40m 16:59 / km
spiked:6/7c

On Rego again but not that busy. A bit further walk to start but not enough to warm up on as was really rocky - as per name of map.
S-1Bearing to just before swamp/w/c
1-2 bearing in what was supposed to be white - but visibility was really low and going slowish. I didn't see much difference in vegetation but got control easily.
2-3 bearing crossing track the 2 w/c and kept another w/c in sight. Was a bit concerned with this as a very subtle feature - sure it was w/c but almost a point feature. Still as rockman said - extend the feature and I did.
3-4 very short leg through green stripe (thought i could tell this one)
4-5 south and pick up w/c or gully and stop before getting too much into green - I thought I was in the green the whole way.
5-6 then the real green started and sloppy and as fire been through lots of thin blackened trunks to duck and weave around slowing progress quite a bit. But eventually track appeared and wasn't sure of waterhole situation so stayed on track until w/c crossed it - safer option given lot of water on course. North from track; parallel to w/c.
6-7 Keep concentrating, keep concentrating this is where you could come unstuck...along track but couldn't pick the attack point wiggle of the track. Kept going too far and then decided not to turn around but to go to.. nearing track junction. OK that's where I am so now it's just North.....and should see control flag which I did but it was not mine... just to the West and yes it was mine.
7-F Raced Shane to F on track. He's taller than me so he was faster than me.
Very happy with today - quite a bit of rust removed over the weekend but still more to go if I want to do anything respectable at Aus Champs.
Back for the dramas of the day - 3 fairly spectacular injuries plus a late person and a VERY late person but all OK.
A word out to the trail bike riders whom we sometimes scowl at... thanks a lot today for bringing in 2 of the injured people!
Note: still pleased with nav but looking at km rate... not so. Visibility was a problem, but still think security of nav is preferable to speed and stupidity.

Event (SL 8 - Barraba Lane) 52:20 [4] *** 2.0 km (26:10 / km)
spiked:7/

First SL since QBIII last year so very rusty. Was on Rego but not much trade.
S-1 bearing - fine
1-2 for some reason I thought it appropriate to cross the green, unnecessarily and tackled it poorly to boot, though I had some company (nic.) who I think didn't want to be there either. Should have skirted lantana on eastern side of w/c. Silly, so obvious now.
2-3 Recovered and hugged w/c - fine. Got there same time as rockman and CB.
3-4 uphill, counted off 2x track, 2x w/c spiked junction yep!
4-5 beside w/c
5-6 E, picked up track, then minor track, then crossed w/c to parallel to minor w/c. fine
6-7 loved this part of map until the end. Beside w/c, noted track below and would "run" into w/c bend. Did and expected to see flag as definitely 4m of earthbank, but no flag. Convinced myself that despite "foot" being in descriptions looking from above might help (plus not quite sure circle in right spot). Could see 4-5 people exiting/heading towards where my next control would be. Did a bit of detective work and went back down, and could see flag tucked up ... yes in the NE foot of 4m earthbank. Must have brushed past it and not looked behind. But I also needn't have climbed!!! Silly. Time loss here seemed a lot more - must have been running for part of the leg and certainly time lost.
7-8 up and along
8-9 direct E to track and to junction. along noting washaway, but didn't interpret it as an intermittent w/c (some difference of opinion!) Went too far and saw a flag, didn't think it was mine and no it wasn't. Even further up this w/c (what was I thinking???) then back E picking up dry ditches and then spotted flag. This was the poorest decision of the day (well among the worst).
9-10 Along track, though not as far as some did and went in parallel to w/c hence was slightly more N than necessary. Beside w/c to two tiny parallel w/c
10-F In.
So pretty rubbish really but need to have more exposure. Lovely area - people seemed happy with day. Very small turnout, and even some still DNS, so much reduced field. Looking forward to tomorrow, hoping for some improvement in nav and not too worried by fitness at this stage.

gym class (PT) 55:00 [4]
shoes: grey/white

Similar format to previous weeks with use of equipment in the main room interspersed with pyramid work within. Certainly not a Body Sculpt in any form so have retitled it as PT because we are really getting a PT session - just silly way to do it. Some rowing which i actually enjoyed; some cycling which i actually pumped out quite happily and some treadmill which i did. Numbers dropping alarmingly I think some didn't return after the first 1km efforts.

gym class (Cross Trainer) 1:00:00 [5]

Really tough class - very pleased it wasn't on a Friday - legs wouldn't have responded to the call Saturday morning (or evening for that matter). Bit disappointed by stalling in run- felt better after 20 sec.
