Street Series (Cameron Park South) 45:43 [3] 4.45 km (10:16 / km)
The afternoon was forecast to be heavy rain, but not much until about 4 - just as I was leaving. Thinking that the journey would be about 40-50 mins I expected most of the rain would be over. Got to event site faster - surprisingly little troublesome traffic - and to an area I'd not realised existed in its current form. It has THE most fantastic recreation facilities. Congratulations Lake Mac - brilliant work - wish I could snaffle it for Newcastle Shorts event.
Sat in car as the rain was still hanging on and as it seemed to be easing i set off. Not long until the rain set in solidly and for a while it was pelting and with a coolish breeze to boot. Was soaked very quickly and pleased that I'd worn old shoes but not pleased that I'd worn my new orthotics. Did a sector and could have come in at 27 minutes but I love running in the rain, though i didn't appreciate the lightning flashes every so often. Decided to add on another section and head back. Not much (running) flow as after each clue i needed to take shelter to write answer and to plan next part. Tried going beside a spoon drain which was well flooded, behind some houses - but first I had to jump it - that was fun!
Then headed back picking up and extra 6 points then had to work out how to get back to Finish. Wasn't too fussed if was late, but didn't want to squander points either. Looked at marked bush track from road, under power easement and up to fields. Could see fast moving water so decided to turn back. But leepback was hot on my heels and thought it was a goer. I said I'd come too while he was there so he went ahead. Well he went ahead alright - well up to his armpits in a hole - which I avoided but I went from star picket to star picket and leepback was well gone... thanks muchly for that. When I got to the Finish he said - so you're alright then? Good thing he's a good bloke! Scored pretty well, though distance isn't crash hot - a few little hills but route was the best in a while. BUT it was so much fun!
