Again lovely conditions and feeling a bit more comfortable, I arrived a little later and so with checking in and loo stop I started well socially distanced from the back of the pack - no matter.

Still very unsettled by John's medical episode I was almost just going to walk it and felt content with that decision. Being under 10, just, for first km was a surprise in that scheme and with the way i was feeling, as it is the steepest part for the longest stretch in the course. Then, the (not) halfway point at well under 22 also was a surprise. However it all fell apart when I came upon a runner who had fallen just before the 4km mark. He was down the hill ie off the track a bit wrapped around a tree. I did a bit of a freak for a second, noted that a young guy was with him, a woman was there with a mobile and was ringing someone and the guy was conscious and talking. So I figured i knew where the tail walkers were and it was closer for me to continue on and raise the alarm, if necessary. The course photographer was just after the 4km mark but he didn't have a phone. I didn't have anyone around me who was faster than me so I had to keep on.
Got to finish, alerted RD and gave details to her. She hadn't been informed, so I must have been very close to seeing it happen. Still tail runners hadn't got to him but they sped up after the phone call. Feeling I'd done all i could, but gave details to RD, I came home.
Comparison with last week's times show great improvement, which is very surprising, and the only section where I went slower was the 3-4 with the encounter.

Hardest class of this type - pyramid 5-10-15-20 reps of set activities with set reps of cardio in between; alternating strength and cardio sets.
Glad I'm feeling better today otherwise it might have been carnage yesterday.

Feeling a bit spooked, reflecting on friend John's recent heart attack at parkrun and the consequences. I rallied in the biceps track.

Early timeslot because of spending the morning with people I started Kinder with. 10 this time which was great. However the Active class was only fairly good - certainly a well structured class - 1 min of alternating strength (use of dumbells) and balance/coordination. Good fit for purpose for the group - it's just I'm not one of them. Highlight again was the mid-session speed footwork and the end zumba number. Made an inglorious and embarrassing exit - dropped my water bottle in my haste. Ooops.

Another ravinnie special - good map and some route choice. Had a choice just at the start of finish "chute" abut collecting another 30 pointer or getting it and losing it. Had it been 40 or greater I would have but not worth getting and losing. Grounds a bit sploshy.

Note

Devastated to learn today that a very long time friend (married someone in my HSC class, our children close friends at primary and high school) was the person reported to have had a heart attack at parkrun. Given his quite good fitness level he was running with a lot of people including some specialist colleagues who worked on him until defib arrived. The more worrying outcome is the head injury he sustained in the fall. A long road ahead for him. We've lost the services of a very good neurosurgeon and his family a gentle and devoted father and grandfather.

An interesting class - initially very confronting but got better with each round.
Warm up
30 sec for each of 10 exercises, 15 sec changeover

Exercises : sprint, overhead lunge, throw down, wall jump, heavy rope smash, Jump ins, Alternate leg/arm plank, walking lunge, GtO rotating, squat press

Control plate check on Brickworks park map, following some reports of missing controls. Would obviously still work with Maprun but for those using map from website needed to check. Getting steamy. Rather disappointed to only encounter 4 people in the park - usually well patronised.
