Orienteering race 58:18 [3] ****
spiked:8/15c shoes: x talon 212

first forest event of the year, out at coast rd/pot luck area. Just took it pretty slowly as legs were a bit sore after yesterday. Was a bit rusty off the start, silly on 1 was going to the right spot, but got distaracted by some other runners, lost 30 sec there, crappy route to 2. got a bit side tracked by a similar looking feature going to 7, so lost maybe a min there. pretty slow getting to 9 then a small mistake in the circle, just didn't go quite far enough in. lost a min or so there. ok for the rest, but just took it very easy, mainly trying to focus on my map reading. could definately use a bit more time in the forest before nationals.... Really enjoyed the course today though, quite nice and technical for the first event of the season.

Running race (coastal challenge) 1:56:16 [4] 22.0 km (5:17 / km)
shoes: x talon 212

castal challenge 22km race from long bay to devo. everybody was pretty quick off the start, but i pushed hard over the first couple of mins to get up front, then didn't really have any trouble in pulling away from the rest of the field. was quite good having a few 33k runners in front to pick off during the race. didn't feel fantastic, but kept a pretty good steady pace for most of the race. had to deal with lots of traffic for the milford to taka section passing a few hundred runners, which was interesting. definately slowed me down a bit though, a couple of complete stops and mainly running off the main track. was a bit tired by taka beach, but managed to keep up a fairly good pace still. then round by cheltenham and the last k into the finish, managed to pass a few more 33k runners, leaving only 3 of the 33k runners (who went through long bay 15mins before my start) to finish in front of me. had a couple of good little falls and moments over the race so a few good bruises now. Pretty stoked with the result, won my course by over 9 min, might have to consider doing the longer one next year, not so sure about my swimming abilities though.

ohagens 5k. wasn't expecting too much tonight as haven't really done that much training for the past couple of weeks and it was a bit windy. got into a pretty nice little bunch of 4 or 5 of us, behind two guys out front. just tryed to keep comfortable and never really tryed to push the pace. round about 8.15 to the turn around. then slowish for a wee bit before a quickish pace back. felt pretty comfy towards the end so pulled a way from the other couple of guys for the last 500m or so. Suprised myself a bit really with my turn of pace, but seemed to work pretty well.... quite happy with my time, a new pb! will have to go for under 16.30 now
