British Night Champs. Muir of Dinnet. M50. 2nd. 74 minutes.

An interesting course in a technically and physically tough forest. I was going pretty well until #9 where I managed to run across a major track (my attack point) without seeing it. Apparently several others did the same. I had little idea of where I was in relation to the control so looped back and got lucky, finding the control after only about 1.5 minutes lost.

Then I missed #11, having got the angle wrong from #10. Had I missed to the right I would have hit other features, but I missed to the left and just wandered further up the fairly featureless hillside. I eventually found a huge boulder but mis-located that on the map. Finally decided I'd have to go out to the road to start again, when I found a very good veg boundary, and from there found the control. 3.5 minutes lost.

From there to the finish I'd lost enthusiasm for racing, and was getting tired.

Rather surprised to find I only missed winning M50 by 80 seconds! The M45s on the same course were going much better.
