Race morning Warm Up.
Hit some trails, some road. Just cruised around mostly with some good pickups. Starting to warm up a bit towards race time. Pretty good timing this time warm up to start gate although I got in the back, doesnt matter, the blowup fest is sure to ensue front line or in the back.

RACE!
Awesome day for racing. Pretty much had some low expectations going into the race, havent done an interval or speed training at all since nov 09. I told Sarah yesterday afternoon that I was really looking forward to racing though. Got up, some oatmeal, coffee, and hit the road solo.
Warmed up, and hit the line in the back of the 20-24/25-29/SS class. Moved up to the middle pack in the first mile before the hikeabike, brutal. HR was skyrocketing the whole first lap. Held my own and just pushed it, knowing there is some spots to "recover" on this course. But the bike did well, loved the FS for this course, although I did have some shifting issues (spent 2 frustrating hours in it last night and got it "doable" to race on...)
By the end of the second lap I was finding my pace, and feeling good. I meant to get all my splits but after the first lap I didnt remember to hit the thing to maybe 1-2 mins later....not a big deal. I definitely didnt negative split or anything but I felt I held it together alot better than an xc race ive done before. Third lap still feeling good and having room to nail the descents and nobody all up on my business everywhere, was a good thing. Knew getting over my 4th hike a bike section on the last lap would mark my end of extreme pain, but still kept pushing, over tech and flat sections, everything.
Felt like I have marked improvement for myself compared to last year, cat 2 race at bonelli. Racing in Cat 1 is really good for me, and I like knowing im racing the fastest guys, testing. More racing, more miles, its only going to get easier to be faster, just have to stick to it, hitting it hard like I am. Then I will get to that podium, its gonna happen, maybe not this year or next but it will. Still new to this "real" volume and training, still loving it more each day too...
ended up 7th/11 in my age category, couldnt be happier with that with where Im at right now.
My avg HR was 173, pretty gnarly for 2 hrs of racing for me, and max 188 is most ive had in a LONG time probably, if ever. Good to note those for me for future reference, glad I didnt forget my strap like I usually do half the time.
