What a wake up call. I got my ass handed to me bigtime today. First race since traverse, and first XC race since april. Tried to hang with the lead group for as long as possible and did for 10-12 mins before a super blowup.

It was super hot, short punchy climbs and some tech stuff and still not used to my bike totally, just a course not suited to my strengths, what few I have. But I hung in there, lap 2-3 were just total recovery mode, felt HORRIBLE and couldnt even spin and go easy with my HR still 170+. I was just anhialated from the first hard effort, guess it was a real bad decision to try that, in prep for cross. laps 2-3 i was getting chills and feeling way wacked out stomach and head. Super hot out and i was dehydrated from the beginning although I tried to drink as much water, with handups from Sarah, as possible. 2.5 bottles total. I got beat by guys that I have handed it to this year and last year...thats the part that kills me mentally.

I have been riding tons more, riding stronger, but this last 3-4 weeks my legs havent felt so great, and the rides have been lackluster all around, with exception of a few cross rides. Not sure where to go from here, but the plan of racing this to prep for cross and get me going, totally failed, I am doubting everything and maybe I totally overestimated my improved ability. Eitherway something to think about, but Im not too worried, its just bike racing and xc isnt my focus, but worries me a little for cross. Gotta remember this is really gonna be my first true season of cross (4 races last year right off injury) and I need to just relax, learn and not expect anything, give it my best, and earn beers and have fun. I need to keep these reminders coming to myself.

A dissapointing race, but learning although dont really know where to pinpoint why I was so damn slow. Hot race, steep punchy climbs, still getting used to bike, dehydrated, went out WAY too hard and never recovered (although I remember going hard like this 4months ago and being able to sit in and recover/stay in the race) confused.

I was wacked after the race for 2-3 hours and got some good quinoa, and hummus down, now one stone to calm my stomach and off to softball. Looking forward to bolts game tommorow, and getting after some of the good beer in my fridge and watching football. MNF!

Warmed up with James, cruised around on the road for 15 mins, then rode a lap cruising.

Cycling (Road) 1:58:23 [3] 38.07 mi (19.3 mph) +327ft

Good ride with dad to start, nice to be on the road bike and have it working right. Foggy though and cool, arm and knee warmers. Legs felt ok during some accelerations and hard pulls, but overall felt less than OK. Dont really know why its been a light week. Kinda windy on the way home and just sucked dads wheel.

Thinking about not heading out to bonelli to race tommorow, lots of thoughts and know it would be super key to get some of that hard feeling in the legs and mental race training for cross in a couple weeks, but might have to go into work a bit today and tommorow, gonna figure it out today though.

Note

No ride for me after work, spent couple hours down in the garage building back my road bike and getting all the new gear back on, cleaning stuff, ready for a ride in the AM with dad.

Note

Not much sleep last night, 1215-530. Dont know if I will squeeze a ride in today but really want to, gotta help sister move though. Then its early to bed for us.

Cycling (CX) 1:07:09 [3] 16.94 mi (15.1 mph) +439ft

Luckily squeezed this ride in, glad to get out and thought id be beat from not enough sleep. But put in some good really hard interval type efforts for the first 20-30mins. Worked some mounts/dismounts in there too, good ride before the football game and moving my sisters stuff.

Cycling (CX) 1:01:01 [3] 15.75 mi (15.5 mph) +368ft

Got out and went out pretty hard for the first 20-30 mins. Then started to take it easier with some accelerations and hard efforts thrown in there. Regular loop just a little shorter, running short on time late day at work.

Cycling (CX) 1:18:34 [3] 17.66 mi (13.5 mph) +369ft

Got the borrowed post from slater on the cx bike this morning, and headed out for a ride. Cool out, knee and arm warmers, and just had a steady paced ride on the loop. Legs felt good, a little better than yesterday when I did some harder stuff but still feel the same sort of fatigue in the upper tops of legs like I did yesterday.

Cleaned the bikes, spent about 2hrs this morning shopping for all the parts and crap I need for the bikes...hopefully getting them all running and good again soon.
