Stretching 20:00 [0]
Beach Running 1:00:00 8.56 km (7:01 / km)
Barefoot on the beach, started with Clem, but he was way toooooo fast for me. Without any kind of training, it was really hard workout even at such slow pace. Knees held Okay, but hip started talking to me about at 50min. into the run. Slowed down for last 5 minutes.

It was variation of sorint coure held 2 years ago, so, locations were very familiar :) Had a nice flaw till #6 where I stuck in green and probably lost 15-20 sec. But bigger lost was at #7 where I stopped short, miscounted reentrants or maybe there was an extra one, anyway time lost about 45-60sec. - too much for the sprint distance.

I knew upfront is going to be hard on my knees and hip cause this terrain is for "runners". Didn't have navigation problems till #16, hit stream about 50m to the right of control, but quickly relocated. The only problem was my running shape and complaining left leg.

Note
Left knee hurts, right knee hurts as well but less, left hip is acting bad and hurts. At least I survived rocky West Point terrain and I had a lot of fun out there. Unfortunately, I'm completely out of shape, knee(s) and hip are having some issues, which prevents me to run, only jogging ... and walking on all these hills.

I knew in advance it's going to be very tough for me. Knees felt sore and kind of paintfull. Jogged to the start, slow, very slow, and felt a bit better. Had only 1 min. before the start, which was Okay. I really enjoyed early start time, no one in the woods, just me, map, compass, and misty morning weather. But it wasn't cold. The only complain - low visibility. First couple of minutes mistake at #3, then #5. On the long leg #7 I took safe route cutting courners and staying on the roads. Unfortunately I could not run any faster ... #7 wasn't an easy control, especially in the mist when you could see only 10m or so around you. That made navigation in the greener part tricky and sure I messed up loosing about 4-5 minutes. Then I was a bit hesitant on the way to #10 (but found myself on the map pretty easy), terrain around #11 was featuring more cliffs than map and I just walked for 50-100m. #13 gave me hard time, I already felt tired, my legs were cramping (no wonder without any kind of training for last 6 month), and I couldn't see the flag ... too many cliffs and approach from the top didn't help. Fortunately, saw some other runner walking behind the cliff and coming out in few moments, which ment flag is just behind that cliff. Finish was painfull.

I expected my knees to be sore and painfull after this weekend, but my hip is bothering me more right now. Is it result of body compensating for bad knee? Probably.

Overall I enjoyed my whole weekend and I believe it was the best A-meet held at West Point so far. Impressive course settings. Nice maps printing. Nutella at the finish!!!
Note
Signed up for Team Trials. This time just M35+ category and helping at the start.

Saturday May 3

Event: West Point A-Meet

Orienteering race 53:29 [3] ***** 6.24 km (8:34 / km) +170m 7:33 / km
14c shoes: VJ Integrator 2007
West Point, Middle distance, Red course.

Official distance 4.23km.

I didn't plan to run and I wasn't even registered. But life is full of surprises and not so wise decision. Wyatt and Angelica got sick and my proximate residence and some other promises made me driving toward WP this early morning. I didn't make any kidn of goals, the only wish I had was to survive steep and rocky terrain.

Ran from parking lot to the start area up the hill. Was late by 1-2 minutes, so, cleared, checked, grabbed my map and took off. I was moving very slow and easy on my knees. Also, my hip was acting bad for last month or so. Didn't have troubles till #5 where I didn't check description to only realize I climbed spur instead of staying in the reentrant. Then a small bubble near #8. But the real bigger problem came at #10 where I drifted lower on the hill-side and overran the cliff I was looking for. Fortunately it didn't take to much of my time and I managed to relocate and find control. Unfortunately this was just beginning of my troubles. #11 took more time and efforts to find. I believe I was very close to control but didn't see it. Even after relocating I came back to the same spot I was standing few minutes before. Could not match map and reality. Then saw the flag just in 10m away on my right. Rest of the course was Okay but slow.

Again, had one of the first start times. Greg B. started 1 min. in fron of me. After middle distance my knees were really sore and whole left leg didn't move well w/out discomfort. Took it very easy, even when I tried to push a bit faster I could not. Saw Greg punching #3 and ran rest of the course behind. He was doing a lot of small but very costly mistakes. And I was "crawling" trying not to destroy my knees completely.
