Running 45:00 [3] 7.5 km (6:00 / km)
max:183 slept:8.5 (sick) shoes: La Sportiva Wildcat the fourth

Recovery run in Nrth Yk then brunch w the gang.
Stuck to the cemetary which avoided lights and traffic.
Start off stiff as usual. Once I finally loosened up it felt pretty good to stretch my gait and push the pace.
One good hill which we looped twice and then a pick up in the pace for the last 500M for a "sprint" to the gates. I can't sprint 500M so it was just my 5k race pace.

I appear to be getting sick finally.

Orienteering race (Snowshoe Raid) 3:07:00 [5] *** 14.8 km (12:38 / km)
ahr:153 max:187 spiked:9/22c shoes: La Sportiva Wildcat the fourth

Team Awesome Possum w WandAR.
Score-O format.
A late start (thank goodness) for all the racers delayed by the storm conditions. I've never driven in a white out and now I understand why it's such a white knuckle experience. It was pretty nerve wracking and reminds me again that I should bite the bullet and get a new car. But we got there safe and sound which is the main thing. Fortunately a good number other racers made it as well so it was pretty full race with lots of familiar faces. It's alway nice to see all the people who I only get to see at races.

Conditions were pretty cold and windy with blowing snow if you did much on road (which we did). The snow itself was that fun 15cm of fresh powder with a layer of crust underneath over deeper snow. Not ideal snow shoe conditions so it was kind of nice to be behind the ground breakers and use the packed trails where we could.

Didn't have the time I'd like to prep an appropriate race plan (again a few mins lost trying to decide routes on the fly) but we managed pretty well in the end. We scored 290 after the 80 point penalty for being almost 8 mins late. I was about to say this was much better than last year but we (WandAR and Gui and I) scored 270 last year after a pentaly of 230 for being 23 mins late. Hm. Ah well. I think I know what things I need to work on.

In general I found this to be a pretty rough race for me fitness-wise and pretty tough in places orienteering-wise. Makes for a tough race moral-wise. :)

Running (running club) 1:16:00 [3] 12.17 km (6:15 / km)
ahr:170 max:180 shoes: La Sportiva Wildcat the fourth

Legs felt horrible at the start. Really thought I was going to be stuck with a slow pace the whole time.
Received encouragement from one of the other runners which seemed work on me so I was able to pick up the pace on the second half of the run.
Sooooo happy to be able to do that. Even if it wasn't fast it was definitely faster.
