Mountain Biking 3:00:00 [3]

More of the same. We went to the same areas as yesterday and explored some different trails. Did c. 2 hours of biking at Big Tree Park, then over to Triangle Lake area. Didn't take a long enough break between rides, so I completely bonked half way through TL loop. To be fair, it was super technical and it was more half track than single track in places... I took a shorter route (still 30 minutes of riding) back to the car, and drove to the otherside of the park to get Pascal. Great weekend!

Mountain Biking 3:30:00 [3]

Long weekend biking in Sechelt with Pascal. Went up Friday PM. Beautiful trails. Lots of exploring... some trails don't exist anymore! Getting way more confident on the technical stuff. Woo hoo!

(rest day)

Went to WET and walked around with Linda and Reid (both newbies). They had fun. Nice course by Liz.

Gym 45:00 [3]

Fitness test with PT today. Ran for 12 minutes (c. 1.33 miles), then squats, push ups, and crunches. Will finish the rest next week, since we work together for 30 minutes only.

Then we did the measurements... I kind of wish I'd done this when I started going to the gym last year. Right now it doesn't mean much to me. The only one I can measure is body fat percentage... last September I stood on one of those scales that measures body fat, and it was around 32%. Today with the calipers I measured in at 19.7% body fat. I know the type of measurement is different, but it's substantial enough that I chalk that up to a win! Still more to go, but it really means I need to cut down on food and especially desserts again... ugg.

Then I did some strength stuff myself. Fun!

Orienteering 1:35:57 [3]

Well this didn't go so well. There was some positive moments, followed by some negative ones. Lots of wading through "white" forest. Problem was lack of planning, and by the end lack of energy. Fun course, nice day, great BBQ afterwards!

Running 18:00 [3]

Warm up for intervals with Nate, Louise, Catherine, Gilles, Adam, and Julian.

Intervals 13:00 [3]

Slow-tervals! I did a modified (i.e. Shorter) version of Coach Julians suggested intervals, so I did:

800m 3:51
600m 2:55
600m 2:52
400m 2:04
400m 1:41

The first, third, and fifth intervals were fast, the second and fourth were slow. Got 20 seconds into the sixth interval and my IT band said "nope", so that was that.

Still have to work on pacing intervals, but since I only do them once every couple of years, it's hard! It's on the "should do" list....

Gym 30:00 [3]

Trying out PT at the gym. Looking for some options in my workout, as well as someone to show me proper form. I'm going to try out for a few weeks, see how things go. Today was good.

Note
(rest day)

Apparently jumping in the car and driving close to 5 hrs will make all your muscles seize. I felt stiff in my gluten, hip flexors, and hips. However, my legs and IT band were fine. Chalk that up to a win!

Hiking 3:45:00 [3]

Day 2 of rogaine. Not too many problems going out again. Felt pretty good, although I was starting to feel physically tired by hour 2 or so. We hit most of the controls we wanted to. Andrea tried to hitch us a ride across a lake, but the confused fisherman wasn't interested... Great weekend. Thanks to Murray, Jackie, Alan, Bruce, and others.

Hiking 7:45:00 [3]

12 in 24 Rogaine with Andrea in Savona. Our plans were only slightly ambitious, and so we had to cut out a couple of controls on each day.

Overall I'm really pleased with Andreas navigational skills! I was definitely the weaker of our team, physically and navigationally. Twice we got off our line, and both times was due to being swarmed by mosquitos.

Rookie error in wearing short sports socks, which resulted in mega blisters on the back of my feet.

I left my map at the hash house, so will count length and climb approximately when I get it back!

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

Started with the mass start. Got excited. Ran too fast. Leg fell apart around 20. Walked to 24, then walked the butterfly. Fun course. Quads sore from squats yesterday. Probably shouldn't have run.

At the start the fast guys had to follow Catherine on a lap of the track before they could start. Fun to run with some of the guys for a while, rather than them taking off into the distance...

Climbing 1:30:00 [3]

Climbing in Crest Creek Crags with Pascal, John Oram, Pat, and Pat's friend who is a girl. Great weekend of climbing at an amazing place. Got some fun climbs in, including 1 sport lead. Not sure what we were climbing since there were no signs on the trails, coupled with hand drawn maps, so we weren't sure where we were most of the time... will be back, but probably on a long weekend... 3 hrs drive from Nanaimo + ferry time = lots of travelling.

cycling 45:00 [3]

To work and back. Longer route to work instead of going to the gym...

Note

It's been a slow week this week. More IMS on Tuesday, exhausted from Saturday... been in bed at 9pm for the past 2 nights. Off to the Island this weekend to climb/camp in the boonies. Yay!

cycling 20:00 [3]

Late for work, didn't have a bus pass for this month, so hopped on the bike... in my pencil skirt and heels... not the best cycling attire, but I was only 5 minutes late rather than the 10-15 I would have been if I'd tried to buy a pass...

Mountain Biking 2:30:00 [3]

Biking at Lost Lake. Took it pretty easy. Technical riding was much easier than last time... Practiced climbing some tight, technical switchbacks a few times to get it without stopping. Out for around 4 hrs with a trip to town, and a swim in the lake. Great weekend!
