Course: M21 6.3 km 220 m
Last leg in the Southern Arrows Team for M21. REally felt like i was in for it after seeing how long some of the elites were taking. FatRat came in 3rd place Thought i was going to be in the final mass start, but Rory really impressed me on the second leg, he came through the specator leg in 6th spot but lost a fair bit in the final loop, still i was impressed. My effort was pretty poorly in both the navigation and the feet. I had a lot of problems with # 7 coming far too high up the rocky hill face and had no attackpoint or catching feature to guide. I enjoyed the spectator leg but was told later that i looked slow and completely stuffed - both true. I ran down through to #11 looking for the western most crossing point thinking that some of them mustn't be marked since i didn't find the previous one, but got through unscathed in a well trodden track. Turns out it was marked and the bit of tea-tree i was bashing through was in fact dark green and i soon found the creek and bashed back out to find the tapes of the actual crossing point. I was pretty sloppy with the navigation by the end, but was glad to finish and kinda had some fun. Wore the headcam again, but it stopped recording after 50' so i will try and post at least some of that view.

Kinda fun, kinda tough too. Started pretty slowly and tried not to blow the first couple of controls. Objective achieved. But i was going so slowly it wasn't long before i was passed by Seb. I folllowed him into a marsh crossing which saw us both getting more than our knees wet. I was really slow up the hills and really slow down the hills too with heaps of crap on the ground. I stuffed around a little bit in the light green and a lot a bit in the tin mining at the end. Not fantastically impressed by my fitness, but at least the coffee people made great Hot Chocolate.

2012 Australian Sprint Championships
10:40 AM. Bicheno. Burned 350 calories.

The rain came and didn't stop until we had pancakes in our bellies. This was heaps of fun and i felt i did pretty well on the navigation, the speed however was somewhat lacking. The speed was halved on the rocks, which i was not willing to lose any footing on, i don't understand how the top guys managed such good times over the rocks. I had a few little shakes and wobbles where i didn't read the control descriptions and wasn't sure of the feature, but lost very little time. Where possible i tried to avoid running on the rocks at all, i don't think this was a bad idea.

Much much cleaner than yesterday. In fact i only had one wobble at a control on a feature that could've been a little inaccurate. Juffy beat me by a solid 10 minutes, probably because he flew business class and i didn't. I took the boat. I let Juffy pass me on the long leg, where i took the shorter steeper option thinking that i would move faster in a straighter line where he could run faster on the longer route choice. Low and behold i saw him disappearing into the distance at the end of this leg. After this my only goal was to finish smoothly with no mistakes. A fun course.
Afterwards we went and ate pancakes and drank hot chocolates. mmmmmmm pancakes.

Feeling a little lethargic is probably not a good way to go into an Australian Championship. I wish i also realised that i was the only South Aussie on the course, probably would've tanken it a bit more seriously. Anyway popped the first control off with no dramas, but then that's where things went bad. Overshot the 2nd control by - oh i don't know - 2 controls. Yep popped up at control 4 not really feeling the love for the map. Turns out the contour interval was 2.5m which means my catching feature was far more subtle than anticipated. After that didn't have too much problem with the course, but was thankful at one point that Jimbo was passing me to lead me to the mysterious #16. Really feel slow against the real elites
