Morning run
8:17 AM. Hawthorndene. Burned 571 calories.

Ran with Fern into Belair, through to the playground and around the lake and home again. It was tough and my legs were a fair chunk of fatigued. Got home in time to mix up some pancake mix and go share it with the family at Karl, Bess and Angus' house.

Zed's Birthday Special
6:29 PM. Belair NP. Burned 980 calories.

It was a chilly night but we set off from home to pick up Jenny and Zed from her house. We ran into the park and up to Karka, we then debated on the hill option or to pike and turn home again. Thankfully we chose to go up and over, as i was feeling like a little more of a run. On our way back down we came across a lone Golden Retriever with no collar. It seemed a little lost but content to not stick with us. A little further on we came across a second Golden Retriever with no collar but this one was a fair bit scared of us (probably because of the multiple Ayups shining into the poor dogs eyes.) I figured that Golden Retrievers are roaming the park. We tried to find out some info from the people at the house at the kiosk but the guys there seemed to not give a shit about anything so we kept going.

2012 Asthma Foundation Take A Breather 6 Hour Rogaine
11:00 AM. Second Valley Forest. Burned 2082 calories.

Fern and I took on the 6 hour rogaine without a lot of planning ~around 15 minutes. IT was more fun to be helping the novices out and then chatting to the other rogainers. Although we did have a reasonably good plan it would seem.
We headed off into the forest with a plan to jog the flats and the downhills and walk up the hills. The only problem with that plan is you always seem to be walking up a hill as the running never took as long. We had only 1 issue with navigation but that was primarily an issue with the vegetation marked in the map - it was blatantly wrong, and quite possibly the control shouldn't have been placed here.
There were lots of sponsored controls which generally meant that there were lollies or chocolates to be consumed. At one of the lolly controls the bags had not been open on the Natural Confectionery Company lollies, so we assumed we could consume a whole bag - which we did. Besides it is more hygienic that way.... The rain showered down a couple of times on us and each time i took off my rain coat and put it away it seemed to start again. The rain coat was quite effective at keeping the rain out, but also keeping the sweat in, so in the end i was drenched anyway. At least warm and wet from my own bodily fluids and not cold and wet by the rain. By about the 3.5hour mark my feet were starting to get sore and my groin was getting a little tight too, but we trudged on and even completed our bonus loop. We ended up dropping 3 controls we had planned to do because of time and tiredness. We still got back with 20min to spare and were able to watch a couple of teams doing the jog of shame coming in after the 6hour mark. We ended up as 2nd Mixed team and 6th overall which i think is quite amazing. The food at the Hash House was pretty awesome and on my plate was Bolognaise with Pasta, Rice, Butter Chicken and Rogan Josh. A winning fusion of Italian and Indian cuisine.

SA Middle Distance Championships - Prelinna
10:04 AM. Flinders Ranges. Burned 648 calories.
Course: M21A 6.6 km 230 m
I didn't really remember what this bit of the map was until i picked up today's map at the start. A little "Oh Shit" came over me when i remembered how much trouble i had previously in this area. Was a lot better navigationally today in this area, though my fatigue and generall slowness shone true with every other competitor on the course beating me. I would have moved up about 3 places though if i didn't stuff up #3 where John and Simon passed me - i shot off over the wrong saddle and missed the control by a good 200m. I had to help out my old man at the top of a hill where he had no idea where he was.... Everyone did pretty well today and i only was last by a few seconds as it turns out.

Badge Event - Mannawarra & Prelinna
10:12 AM. Flinders Ranges. Burned 1355 calories.
Course: M21A 14.7 km 380 m
Was in this for the long haul, and what a long haul it turned out to be. I plodded along at my special pace being passed by all sorts of orienteers and some of them even got to pass me twice! Had a bit of a wobble around 9 where i don't understand the detail on the map and lost my whistle and half my jelly beans through the hole discovered in my pocket at the start. Was pretty consistent up to 16 then the fad really kicked in and i struggled to hold my direction and even my map interpretation on the final legs. Really blew #21 which should've been an easy short leg near the end of the course. I even was out-sprinted by Erica D in the chute.... Despite this, I'm proud i finished this since this was my longest orienteering race ever i beleive.

SA Night Championships - Rawnsley Park
6:36 PM. Flinders Ranges. Burned 627 calories.
Course: M21A 6.1 km 140 m
I declare that night orienteering is actually my speciality. Unlike most others, my pace doesn't slot down at night, infact it probably increases. I had so much fun with this course and only had a couple of minor errors. Error 1 was on control 1 where i miscounted/misinterpreted some gullies and overshot to the track north of the control. The other error was on 2 where i hit the creek about 100 m south of the control. Felt really good and accurate through the terrain and can record a win over Blair for the first time in my life.
