Sturt Gorge Trails

Went out with Ryan and Lachlan. What a tough ride it was. I felt pretty good initially. Then as I was geting to Ryan's house i discovered my brakes have faded to almost nothing. Not a great start. Turns out i don't use my brakes all that often as i had no difficulties on the ride. I was ready to quit at the furthest point, but Lachlan and Ryan convinced me to keep pusing. I'm glad they did too. There were so many bits on tat trail i had to hop off and walk.

Brighton Parm Run

After a micro-adventure campin trip to Rob, Penny and Zoe's back yard we awoke to a beautiful morning run to Seacliff SLSC with the tots in the prams. On our way back to Brighton we bumped into Dan the man on his bike who joined us for a playground stop (and an iced coffee stop). Rob is really fast - I was struggling to keep up with the group as he set the cracking pace. We all gorged ourselves on pancakes and homemade berry frozen yoghurt afterwards as we slowly packed up our camp site.. Yummo.

A morning to myself running up hills. There were a few of them. Running down them was funnerer. Hardly anybody in the park this morning, well not where i was running. The steps are getting quite overgrown and not that comfortale to run down. I even got half way down and lost the path. Felt good to be out on a run.

Muller Road Attack

It was Fern's turn to run with the group, while Paddy looked after me. First off we had to find the group, because despite sending a message and only being 5min late, the group had already left.... What? That's unheard of - starting a long run on time.... I've tried this for so many years to no avail, now when we are the one's always running late, they manage to start on time..... Murphy. I hate you.

Anyway we did find them through my Holme's like powers of deduction and Fern did get to run with the group. Paddy and I did too until i felt the need to turn back since my vision dropped out with an oncoming migraine. Great. So half blind Paddy and I ran back and finished just before the front of the group. Migraine didn't really eventuate to much, probably because of the milkshake and croissant.

3hr Minigaine

Fern, Patrick and I took part in the 3hr Minigaine as the greates team that there ever were. Our plan was loose, our enthusiasm was good, but not amazing, our preparation was non-existent. That made us an awesome family team. The first issue came on our way to te first checkpoint where a crossing point wasn't exactly pram friendly..... The crossing point was a hole in the fence; big enough to crawl through but required the pram to be unloaded, folded up, passed through and keep going. only problem there was the 30 other teams doing the same leg, having to wait for us to get through the hole. We were swift but the queue grew longer as we were getting through. It was pretty smooth sailing for while after that, until i made a wrong turn briefly after miscounting intersections.... Poor form. At the half way point (control 41) we had a compulsory playground stop (mostly for me, but Patrick had fun too) which ate up about 15min of our time. Following this, we had a little man that didn't really want to be in the pram, so once we punched the Haarsma control, we let the little gu walk with us for a bit, dropping our pace a fair bit. By this time, we wrote of the rest of the plan and opted for icecreams and 3 more controls, then pizza. We ended up with 700 points (including our bonuses) but were pipped by those people who wrangled more bonus points with fancy dress and having novices in their team (a total of 150 pts). It was amazing to think that this was Patrick's third rogaine, he's a champ. Patrick destroyed about 50kg out of the 100kg of watermelon available, while we just watched in awe of how red a yellow t-shirt can change with a fruit that is 99% water. Amy, Emma and Jenny did a good job putting on the event.

Heysen - The Cedars Loop

Ran with the Arrows from Bridgewater. Was quite glad of the fact that Simon was feeling pretty slow also, and he proved acceptable company for some of the run. Really struggled back up Silver Road, but once we were at Jarrett Nissan, Simon stuck with me to keep me honest on the last undulating bit.
