Well, i entered the SA 24 hr Rogain champs with full intention to have a great deal of fun. About an hour into the race i ended up feeling dizzy just after spotting control 61. About 60m from the control i yelled out to Catherine (my Rogaine Partner) that somehting wasn't right. She assumed i was talking about the navigation, she thought that was wierd since we both had already spotted the control. Once she saw me doubled over on the ground i think she figured that the navigation was fine. I passed out momentarily which felt like ages since i was having really cool dreams. Catherine shouted at me (which i heard in the dream) and i came to. After that i felt fine, but felt really de-hydrated, even thought i had been hydrating fine all morning. Another team came through and were promptly sent back to the HH to get help. We were only about 4km from the HH. "It took 2 hours for help to arrive with a streacher. I was in the mood to walk back to the car, though i dropped the suspision of a snake bite to the helpers (Ruhi and Steve) and they bandaged my leg up. I was only slightly suspicious of a snake bite as 20min prior to passing out, i felt a prick in my legs, i checked, but there was no sign of a bite, or a snake.
Once i walked out of there to the awaiting car, i decided to go down to Burra Hospital. They checked me out and decided to transport me to Royal Adelaide on the suspision of a snake bite also. I had to Ambulances to get me to Adelaide (swapped crews at Tarlee). and got to Emergerncy about 9:00pm. There apparently isn't much of a wait for suspected snake bite victims, and i was seen to almost immediately. It was confirmed as a brown snake bite, and i was put onto the first of two courses of Anti-Venom. I was then transferred to a high-dependancy ward (a step down from Intesive care, but i still got so much attention all night long by my nurses and several doctors including SA's leading snake toxicologist). All this time i only felt like i had a de-hydration headache, though they did adivse me i could turn, and my blood wasn't coagulating at all. I was discharged from ICU at 2pm to sit and wait for my final blood tests in a dodgy general ward. By 8:45pm on Sunday night, i was finally discharged. I can't believe how many people helped me and i don't think i can show my full appreciation to everyone. I learnt a couple of things from this: how to pee in a bottle while in bed, and always suspect a snake bite. For a snake bite in August, this caused excitement for everyone, and i finally got a first place! The first snake bite of the season!

Rogaine race (SA Champs, 24hr) 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Trabuco IV

Well, i suppose i could also log my bit of the rogaine i did get to compete in. It was to be the winning partnership between Catherine and myself. Our route was set for good fun covering about 35km for the first loop, and the second loop left open to a lot of option, around 8km. The start went well, and we were up to 180pts in the first hour, and then it all went a little pear shaped. See the note.

No run for me today! The Southern Arrows held the Club Relay Championships at Flinders University. What a spectacular day! after rocking up at the event site at 6:30am to set up and when the sun finally came up it was apparent how good a day it was going to be. And i'm not just talking about the weather! 50 teams took part in a spectacular event set by Lachlan, Tristan and Mallory. The rest of the Arrows all played HUGE parts in making the day a complete success. So far i have heard no complaints, other than the 3 flights of stairs on the spectator leg. Only a handful of teams didn't finish and there were no errors on part of the organisers (us). All up i very succesful day for the Arrows.
A BIG thanks must go to Paddy Pallin for donating the prizes.

Running long (Pony Ridge and Belair) 1:41:05 [4] 15.1 km (6:42 / km) +400m 5:55 / km
ahr:163 max:186 shoes: Asic Kayano XIII

This was the first long run i have done in ages, went along with the Arrows despite my apparent lack of fitness in comparison. It was a jolly good run, with about 400m climbing. The route took us through Randell's Reserve and int Belair National Park. We did a little bit of a turn around the park and headed down Pony Ridge Road. Pony Ridge Road detriates quickly into a single track and reminded me of the last group run i did on that track. I remembered soiling myself and having to hide the evidence in a bush.

Running (Carrick Hill Sub-Loop) 40:00 [1] 6.0 km (6:40 / km)
ahr:150 max:169 shoes: Asic Kayano XIII

I left the house looking forward to a nice run. By the time i was running i wasn't quite looking forward to it so much. So unfortunately my run turned into a dreaded jog. Then parts of my ogged also turned into a shameful walk. The walking appeard to creep in at every hill that i saw, or imagined. so in the end you could say i went out for a nice evening stroll.
How bizzare.

Running race (Joggers World Fun Run 4) 39:45 [5] 8.0 km (4:58 / km)
ahr:183 max:192 shoes: Asic Kayano XIII

My first ever fun run. How exciting. I even entered the big boys course! Finished in about 74th place (out of 114). My only goal was to do the race in under 5min/km. I achieved that, but now thinking about it, I think i can do better. Pity it was the last race of the Joggers World Series. and i won't be around for the City to Bay.

The interesting thing of the day was the fact that the Souithern Arrows were well noticed. No one actually spoke to us in our uniforms, but we coudl hear a lot of people talking at the start as we warmed up. I think we had a bigger impression at this race amongst other long distance runner than if we had got the long distance runners to an orienteering race.

Running long (Morilata Long Run) 1:02:10 [2] 8.5 km (7:19 / km)
ahr:161 max:185 shoes: Asic Kayano XIII

Started on a run with the Arrows from Rostrevor, pretty soon i was on my own but that was good since i didn't feel like keeping up with them. I ended up really behind the rest and found running from second falls to first falls. Lachlan found me after a while and we all ended the run together.

Running (Torrens Park Loop) 32:30 [3] 5.73 km (5:40 / km)
ahr:168 max:195 shoes: Asic Kayano XIII

A bit of a quick run around my usual loop. i pushed really hard up the steep hill which nearly led to me falling over at the top. But in true aussie spirit i did not heed the temptation of falling over in the finish chute.

Orienteering race (Moon Rocks) 56:30 [3] *** 6.9 km (8:11 / km)
ahr:174 max:188 spiked:10/13c shoes: Jalas O Shoes (red and black o

I was actually excited to be going Orienteering.
IT was a pretty fun day out, and the course wasn't too bad, but obviously standards have risen when it comes to mapping rock features.
I overshot control two pretty badly and almost got to control 9! but i worked it out and got back. The flow was pretty good and it was nice running up to control leg 7 where the control was visible from 6, but about 800 metres away. and about 80m climb.
All up a fun day out.

Running (Urrbrrae and Waite) 50:00 [3] 9.0 km (5:33 / km)
ahr:168 max:191 shoes: Asic Kayano XIII

Thanks Simon. I think i remember now, and this run sort of showed that.
I wen out after dark on a run thinking it would only last about 25-30 min. but once the music was pumping, the legs were pushing and the rain was falling i didn't really want to stop so soon. i kept going and before i knew it i was too far from home to turn back and make it a short run. Though it was only 9km it has been my best effort since before July and since i started my new job.
I will be keeping those endorphins coming. Though who knows about my consistency of Trogging
