Kayaking 3:30:00 [3] 15.06 km (13:57 / km)
weight:88kg

Lasletts to Nelson
7:01 PM. Glenelg River NP. Burned 988 calories.
Course: 14.6 km
Canoe Trip Day 4:
The last day started at 0600, there wasn't much of a sun at that time. The morning was much warmer with the winds changing to the NW and so no mist for us to paddle through either. We were all packed up and on the river before 0700 to get back to Nelson before lunch. The paddle from here was a bit more interesting passing thorugh SA and many shacks. We stopped for a break at Donovans Landing where the wind really started to whip up all nasty and firey. We watched Ryan's blue seat mat sail down the river while we ate Tres Bon and muesli bars before deciding to go after the mat. We were back on the river and being hurried along by the bloody strong tail wind. This wind made paddling around corners a challeng at times. We had to pass through a waterski zone where a nice little V12 Jet boat by the name of Black Bitch was kindly creating a 4m swell for us. We decided to skip our break where their party was. Coming into Nelson is the Isle of Bags which was girt by choppy windy waters. We left SusC on the isle to look for a cache. Unfortunately it wasn't found and any attempt to land even one more person on the island would have made any rescue impossible since the wind didn't want anyone to actually stop there. FernWerm and I tried paddling around the island, but found our trajectory to be more like a tear drop shape rather than a perfect circumnavigation. The trip ended with us landing at the boat shed and feeling quite good about ourselves.

Kayaking 2:00:00 [3] 7.88 km (15:14 / km)

Bowds to Lasletts
6:57 PM. Glenelg River NP. Burned 549 calories.
Course: 7.4 km
Canoe Trip Day 3:
We al were awake again reasonably cramky and early and decided that keeping quiet in the campsite was no longer required. While Ryan snapped large chunks of wood for the fire we all got involved with using trangias as tamborines. Actually we are really too considerate for all that, we just can't possibly be pricks. Thankfully we were all cheered up by SusC's Jelly and oats for breakfast. We were back on the river for a short paddle to Lasletts byt lunch followed by a walk to the caves. It was a very easy day. i think just 2 hours on the river all up. I could be wrong though, i never put a watch on the whole trip. The camp at Lasletts was much more pleasant with only a couple of other groups who all had experienced the terror of the louts on previous nights. We all had a good whinging session with them. After "morning tea" at camp we wandered off into the scrub to find some caves. We found Princess MargaretRose Caves which convieniently had a kiosk with yummy stuff. We wandered back a different way and grabbed some more firewood for more of Ryan's incredible fire uilding skills.

Kayaking 4:00:00 [3] 15.72 km (15:16 / km)

Skipworth Springs to Bowds
Glenelg River NP. Burned 1098 calories.
Course: 14.4 km
Canoe Trip Day 2:
We awoke to an awesome fog holding low over the river (most likely because the air was freezing but the water was so nice and warm) which looked spectacular. Breakfast on this trip consisted of Croissants followed by some Oats with milk - loads of yum. We were all packed up and on the river by 0900 just after the mist burned off (we never were able to cath a paddle in the morning mist). Today was another reasonable day of paddling to get to Bowds. We had a morning tea break at Georges Rest to find that campsite inundated with people our age but more inclined to drinking and muckracking. The other campers at this spot looke somewhat tired and desperate to move on. We were glad to leave Georges Rest. We made pretty good time and felt quite good so we didn't stop for lunch until Deutchers leaving only 2km to camp after that. The river is pretty but there isn't much change in scenery along it so much of our time was spent looking at the birds, looking for koalas and trying to keep in a straight line. Occasionaly FernWerm and I would ram Lachlan and SusC just for a giggle. FermWerm never had the choice really, i was steering. We were in camp by 1400 and nicely set up and found the local Geocache. After our run to MacLellans Punt, we started dinner only to be interrupted by that group from Georges Rest. We should've been hanging around nude to discourage them from landing there. They brought the whole trip to a level of sucky for that night anyway. We were kept awake until about 0130 until they were too drunk to talk or they al fell in the river and drowned, either way they sucked. SusC put together some jelly for the mornings breakfast while Ryan built another awesome fire and Lachlan and I did the dishes from the dinner.
4 PM

Running 25:00 [3] 4.0 km (6:15 / km)

Bowds to MacLellans Punt return
4:00 PM. Burned 377 calories.

SusC, Lachlan, FernWerm and myslef all donned our running gear for a bit of a leg stretcher. We were at the punt within 10min, and were able to find a geocache. While i was filling out the logbook, SusC discovered Potatoe plants, which obviously needed to be removed, and for what better purpose than to fill our bellies. So with posctes full of spuds (in Lachlan's case a body cavity) we started our run back, we decided that the run needed to take in a tiger snake so SusC took us passed one. We got back to camp and watched Lachlan douse himself in the river and it's muddy bottom (the river, lachlans was muddy by association). After an afternoon of rest we ended up quite disturbed not only by Lachlan but by that party of 14.

Kayaking 5:00:00 [3] 21.0 km (14:17 / km)

Pines Landing to Skipworth Springs
Glenelg River NP. Burned 1353 calories.
Course: 17.6 km
Canoe Trip Day 1:
We were finally ready and on the water by 1010 the river up this end is a bit narrower and much quieter than downstream. We paddled for an hour before we stopped for an early lunch at Moleside where we discussed the difficulties we all were facing staying in a straight line in the canadian canoes. We took a short walk to try for a Geocache, but it was in vain. The rest of the day was spent practicing our straight line paddling even though th river got to meander insanely. The camp at Skipworth Springs was probably our best campsite since it was quiet, secluded from the boats and the water source was actually a spring. I was apparently having to reintroduce myself to untreated water. SusC and FernWerm will probably tell the stories better from the trip so keep up with their trog.

It's XMAS so RUN
6:10 AM. Belair NP. Burned 978 calories.

Merry Xmas to all my AP Freinds!

We started out towards the old Upper Sturt Station via Echo Tunnel and the waterfalls. I was really slow and tired, and breaking in my new shoes. I got to the tap at the top and decided i wouldn't hold back the others so Bridget and I trundled back down through the Redwoods and Long Gully back home. We saw 4 Emus, 3 Koalas a million Cockatoos (noisy buggers) and stax of flutterbys. Very pleasant morning with a bit of rain. Back at the carpark we (i) gorged myself on Ferns Cinamon Almonds and some awesome bread that Jenny brought (where did you get that).
Fern and I got home and exchanged presents, i gave here cleaty pedals and shoes and a subscription to Australian Geographic, and Fern gave me a pair of cycling shorts and a Crumpler Bag. Making it a very cyling xmas. Can't wait fo lunch!!!!!

6:39 PM. Belair NP. Burned 838 calories.

Did the 'usual' old loop up the Hill that never stops taking, then over to the old station steps and back down. I pushed really quite hard up a couple of the hills and it really felt good at the end. A tough night. Followed by yummy stuff as a Xmas treat. Yay for feeling good running again!

Ran with John and Fern up through Deep View to the top of Second Falls and back down. I really was quite slower than ever on this run. But it was fun. I reallllly love Morialta.

We Broke Troy
6:39 PM. Bellevue Heights. Burned 167 calories.

Started out with the team until Troy badly rolled his ankle (probably sprained) so i helped him back to our place then drove him and his car home.

Returning the Broken Troy to it's owner
7:32 PM. Blackwood. Burned 389 calories.

After dropping Troy and his car off at his place, i had to get home, so what do i do? RUN! I ran along the creek all the way to Main Rd and then over to Coromandel Station. IT was a faster pace then i would normally do and got home pretty quickly. I was actually pleased with my effort.

Cox's Creek
8:12 AM. Bridgewater. Burned 611 calories.

Everybody else appeared too slack, injured, tired or just out of hospital so Fern, Jenny and I were the only mugs to tackle the Bridgewatrer summeryness of 10degrees and showers. We couldn't even cross Cox's Creek because it was rather swollen. But we had fun and then had even more fun at the Stirling Organic Market and Stirling Street Market. I think we bought more calories than we burned, but it was well worth the freezing toes.

Queen's Jubilee SLOG
4:54 PM. Belair NP. Burned 581 calories.

After a tough afternoon in the air, Fern and I took off on our bikes. I was a little grateful to have my feet firmly on the ground again after being blown around like a butterfly in a breeze. Anyhoo, we cyclopedalled up Queen's Jubilee Dve to the tap and then zoomed down Sheoak Rd. Strangely Sheoak Rd was more like a highway than a back road today which made the chicanes a pain to navigate. Great fun!

Last Curry Club ad LADS forever for me today, and it really didn't agree with running, i enjoyed the curry the first time around, but the constant bouncing of little bits of Lamb Korma back up my Oesophagus doesn't lend itself to running.

Karka Pavillion
6:36 PM. Belair NP. Burned 607 calories.

Ran very gingerly up to Karka Pavillion plodding behind the crew, I caught up with them suspicious of why they had stopped where they did. Apparently there was an echidna, well it was quite apparent as i saw it stuff it's face into a termite mound for some dinner. Jogged all the way to Karka, then Fern came back with me along the close creek track. Quite a feew people in the park this evening, even found a Zara on our way back down.

Wednesday Night
6:43 PM. Blackwood. Burned 472 calories.

Short run with Fern around the traps, i wasn't feeling like much more than a 30min trot, and that's what we got! Other than the Plymouth Avenue slog it was quite a nice run. Had a great pasta meal afterwards and some icecream and ICE MAGIC which is awesome.

Note

Physio started making hints towards a discectomy, and it's benefits. It sounds more rewarding than the Epidural that the doctor offered. I would rather try to do as much therapy before i go down any path of surgery and drugs. It's not like i'm in huge amounts of pain, so i think the doctor is overreacting. Will try a lot more core strengthening work before anything else and see how it progresses. It doesn't seem to affect my running or cycling so hopefully that is good for it. Still, stoopid back.

Monday Night
6:14 PM. Clapham. Burned 579 calories.

Short run from Jenny's into Clapham and Colonel Light Gardens. I was wearing a back brace for the first time, it was pretty uncomfoortable and i forgot to change my shoes to my runners. I was not all that enthused by running and there was no chance of me keeping up with the rest of the crew. All up i think i ended up quite a grumpy bugger by the end of the evening.

Mt George Loop
8:16 AM. Bridgewater. Burned 660 calories.

I started out with the Arrows but decided not to hold them back and I turned up the hill towards Mt George, i looped back to Bridgewater which made it quite a pleasant run. Bridget and I got sprayed with shit from a wayward bird. I suppose that is good luck. Very little back pain this morning!

Cycling 1:40:00 [3] 28.0 km (16.8 kph)

Xmas Shopping Adventure
Eden Hills to the City- Return. Burned 2605 calories.

Fern somehow convinced me to cyle down the hill to the City to do some Xmas shopping. I can't really say no to her :P It was fun to ride down the Lynton Connector Urban Trail for my first time, though Fern said i did it slow. We opted to come home through Shepherd's Hill Park on the way home, and i was way impressed by the hill that Fern has to ride up on her way home from work. I had to walk a fair bit of it. The insulting thing is that when you get back to the bitumen, there is another km of pure uphill riding to get home. Fern owes me leg massages now.

The Hackney
6:41 PM. Hackney. Burned 553 calories.
Course: Medium 4.7 km 20 m
Fern and I did the medium course together, i was feeling a litle dehydrated after drinking too much white wine and eating too much cheese cake at the work xmas party. The course was fun enough for the two of us, and we didn't go exceptionally fast. We had fun!

Pines Loop
6:42 PM. Belair NP. Burned 400 calories.

Little run starting out with the girls, but since i'm a girl i left them to be manly. After the bad news at the Doc and Physio i only wnated something gentle and considering i am still trying to get back into the training groove, i thought it prudent to keep it short. I saw stax of Rainbow Lorikeets and 2 Emus which made me divert on to a single track.

Flood Control..... Damn
6:41 PM. Craigburn. Burned 552 calories.

After work run with Fern. I was feeling rather tired from lack of sleep; unfit, from lack of running; tender, from my dodgy back, and generally a little grumpy. Fern did her best to cheer me up, and it really wasn't a bad run. Though i was slowing down a lot towards the end. We had a good break at the Flood Control Dam and blowin my nose over the edge (runner style) was awesome fun to watch my snot fall all the way to the ground. Saw a fox too! I think Fern was getting fed up with eating so many butterflies on the trails

John's to First Falls
6:37 PM. Magill. Burned 722 calories.

Ok, this is the start of the Summer training for me. I was feeling enthused to be running and my back wasn't sore much at all. After meeting at John's we took off to First Falls. We saw 2 koalas on the way and i was so pleased to be able to rest at the kiosk and then the falls themselves. The down hill back seemed harder than the up hill. I was pretty tired by that stage. Eric was able to literally run rings around me.
