Craigberms via Sturt River

Karl said there was a new trail from Murrays Hill Road which connected into Craigburn Farm Trails. So we went and investigated. And there was, and there is even some new fun trails on the southern ridge in Craigburn Farm. Awesome. Heart behaved itself today, though still a bit heavy in the chest. Not sure what the Doc will tell me tomorrow, but i expect to be back at the Cardiologist before too long too...

Bri-Glen Park Badge Event

I was looking forward to this race after manning the computers on the Night Champs left me without a run. Enjoyed the first bit with very few errors. Had direction problems with 4-5 showing that i probably rely a lot on the topography and not on my compass which ends up with me running a good 30degrees off th correct bearing, the same can be said for 5-6 and 8-9. It became apparent that as i got tireder my orienteering got sloppier with a big deviation in direction from 14-15 back towards 13. I hit the wall climbing in the creek to 16 and then completely blew out with a hit of Tachycardia on the way to 7 which lasted for around 3mins. I don't know what caused it, but it hasn't happened for some time now. Will have to check into a doc to try and get to the bottom of it... Clambering out of 19 i ran straight into a low branch as i left the control with head down and put a nice scratch on my neck.
Really it was far from perfect orienteering technique from me, but a throughly enjoyable day out depsite everything.
It was lonely camping without Fern too....

Late run with Fern after running around for the sport ident gear after work. It was a nice night for a run between the rain showers. I always like seeing the water running in the gutters and listen to it trickle into the side entry pits. I would like to get this run down to around 25', that would be good.

another run from the Tomas Farm this time deeper into the bush and longer to try and bunr the 4000000 calories ingest the couple of days prior. It was a very pleasant run, but was feeling tired before the end. This place is amazingly beautiful, i really enjoyed my time in WA.

Frank Smith Park and back again

Run from home with the usual suspects, plus 1 fairly small Darwinite. It was an oddly warm night. I freaked out the team by wearing all lycra which made me shiny, smooth and lumpy. Ran really fast down the hill on Myrtle Ave and enjoyed the company of Troy who was reliant on my shiny bod to light his way. Back at home we talked about lots of cool things.

WHAT A DISASTER, and unfortunately not because of me or my orienteering abilities. There were 4 problems with controls today, 3 controls in the wrong location, and 1 with the wrong unit/code. Admittedly i did stuff up the first control and overshot the gully that had the control in it. But it wasn't until number 5 when things went horribly wrong. My navigation was good, but i was a little unsure of if i was in the actual right gully, nevertheless i went in search of the feature. I found the feature but not the control so i began to relocate to try and see if i was in a different gully. All evidence said i was in the correct gully, but the control stand was not to be found. James rocked up and i said "I will give you $10 if you can find the control." He couldn't and we both confirmed that the control was not here so we moved on, punchless. #6 was the same story, we found the feature, but not the control, spent a bit of time relocating to ensure our position and then decided to move on. As we were leaving Brett popped up and then found the control on a feature that was not mapped further east of the circled boulder.Very frustrating. (turns out that Brett helped put out controls yesterday because of Andrew's injury...). #7 then was our goal and both James and I had the same plan and we were moving at about the same speed. We both think we hit the feature square on in the correct gully, but the control was much lower on a different cliff. This was beyond a joke. The final frustration was with the last control which was pretty simple except when we came to punch the unit, the number was incorrect. Again i decided to confirm my position before punching and as i turned back to the feature, there was an event controller rushing in to swap the unit over. Talk about a disasterous day.
I went into this event knowing it was going to be tough, but not knowing that i was going to be playing hide and seek with poorly placed controls. Apart from this i think Andrew did set a fun course on what can essentially be called a shit map. I spent a lot of time at the finish being a troll and waiting for other course 2 competitors to come back to vindicate my position. Oh and the Schools Team catering was yummy as always.
