Orienteering race (Middle) 50:10 intensity: (1:37 @1) + (18:43 @2) + (29:50 @3) ***** 6.56 km (7:39 / km) +100m 7:06 / km

11:34 AM. Flinders Ranges.
Burned 530 calories.
SA Long Distance Championships - Prelinna Course: M21AS 6.0 km 15 m

I was a little more enthused for this race. After i got Paddy to sleep, i had just enough time to get to the start. Headed off to one and thought i had drifted too far east and briefly lost a bit of map contact but was able to quickly relocate by the big fat knoll that the control was behind. Turns out our course had the wrong start triangle which resulted in my forced parallel error. An interesting exercise (if it wasn't the SA Champs). Still had the head out of whack to number two by going to a control which i knew wasn't mine but i had to check just to be sure i wasn't going insane like the first leg. I wasn't and i quickly got my way to 2 losing about a minute. My next folly was to number 4 where i slipped one gully system to far east and relocated when i hit the yellow. The gully system i was in was quite overgrown and slowed me down a whole lot, probably lost the race on this leg. I nailed the navigation after that and made sure i knew exactly where i was the whole way along, this probably cost me some speed. Slatts beat me by 7 minutes today, that's embarrassing.

2:58 PM. Flinders Ranges. Temperature: 13.9 °C
Burned 437.11 calories.
SA Middle Distance Championships - Mannawarra Course: M21A 5.1 km

I was pretty tired and unenthused to go an do this, but i'm glad i did in the end. I wobbled a lot on the way to the first one but quickly gained my composure on the way to 2 to have a pretty smooth course. I got lucky at 3 where the control was placed in the wrong gully (TT event after all) but was able to overhear other people muttering about where it actually was (1 gully south). Everything else was pretty good i felt i nailed 11 with the vague spur and gully crossings. As a bonus i beat Slatts!

Relatively nice run in. Was slower than last week, probably on account of not having a very good sleep for a couple of nights.
