Wanted to have another go at East Hawley Road (one of the finer climbs around here, up 1,250'). Last time I parked at the top and did a good-sized loop that ended with the climb. At the time that struck me as rather dumb, and my opinion has not changed.
So a more reasonable route this time. Started just outside Shelburne Falls, first a mellow 30 minutes along Route 2 to Charlemont, then the climb, then back down Claesson Brook Road and 112, can just let it go on the former, no potholes, no traffic, no brakes, and then put it in a high gear on 112 and you're back in SF in no time.
The climb was OK, 33:30 compared to 37:30 last time. Just a steady hard effort.
The only bummer was when I was done, there was an e-mail, Phil has been suffering again, was back in the hospital (though getting out today), more gut issues. Will go see him in a little while.
