walking 28:24 [1] 1.73 mi (16:25 / mi) +13ft 16:18 / mi
weight:140lbs

An afternoon of exploring some local spots (including this one, quite the construction project for a mile of trail, but a lovely spot). This was the only one at all energetic, a bit muddy.

biking 46:25 [3] 11.96 mi (3:53 / mi) +375ft 3:46 / mi
weight:140lbs

Short ride up along the river, back through Montague Center. Low 50s, good breeze out of the south. Very pleasant, though coming back was a lot harder than going out.

Saturday Feb 27, 2016 #

walking 32:10 [1] 2.06 mi (15:37 / mi)
weight:140lbs

Along the canal in Turner's Falls in the last bit of daylight. A few birds on the water to keep my interest up, and a stiff wind to keep me moving.

--------

Add Room and Theeb to the movie list, the latter from Jordan, both excellent, both nominated for Oscars for best film.

And went this afternoon to a session at our local library featuring our state rep -- "Representative Stephen Kulik (D-Worthington) will talk about the future of renewable energy in Massachusetts. He will discuss various legislative initiatives, such as the Omnibus Energy Bill, the legislation affecting the Net Metering Cap on solar photovoltaic hookups, how renewable energy impacts the proposed Kinder Morgan Northeast Energy Direct gas pipeline, and other matters affecting our energy future."

Kulik is a class act, known him since he first ran for office 20+ years ago. Drew a standing room only crowd, lots of knowledgeable people. Very interesting.

And nice to see the library, which will forever have large spot in my heart, serve so well in one of many roles.

Legs not real happy...

Thursday Feb 18, 2016 #

treadmill 40:30 [2] 4.0 mi (10:08 / mi)
shoes: pegasus 6

Slowly getting better, still at a very easy pace.

Haven't yet given up all hope of doing Boston. Two months.

Tuesday Feb 16, 2016 #

treadmill 32:20 [2] 3.0 mi (10:47 / mi)
weight:139lbs shoes: pegasus 6

Legs maybe less unhappy with a slower pace?

Sunday Feb 14, 2016 #

treadmill 29:51 [3] 3.0 mi (9:57 / mi)
weight:141lbs shoes: pegasus 6

The usual struggle to figure out what and how much makes sense. Slowly getting a little better.

Friday Feb 12, 2016 #

treadmill 30:25 [2] 3.0 mi (10:08 / mi)
shoes: pegasus 6

A little more on the treadmill. Felt better after a day off, but still too fragile.

Wednesday Feb 10, 2016 #

treadmill 22:00 [2] 2.0 mi (11:00 / mi)
shoes: pegasus 6

Just a little bit again, but maybe too much?

Tuesday Feb 9, 2016 #

treadmill 22:40 [2] 2.0 mi (11:20 / mi)
weight:140.5lbs shoes: pegasus 6

Pain in the hamstring/butt has diminished a good bit, so seemed time to try jogging a little. An easy mile on the treadmill, then a little bit of gentle walking, then another easy mile. Seemed mostly OK.

Nice day out, 40F and a N breeze. Stayed on the flats south of town. The rods were in good shape, but still watching out for sand and ice. Could have used one more shirt.

Note

We've been getting out and going to a few movies over the last couple of months. I was thinking coming home last night that more important than than the notion of how "good" a movie was, was what mattered was simply whether I enjoyed it or not. The one last night, Youth, was quite a strange film. I'm not sure how they ever dreamed up the story line, but many wonderful scenes and we both sat there quite loving it.

So the adds one more to the list, all thoroughly enjoyable, not a bad one in the bunch, at least from our point of view.

After a reminder from Phil that it was possible to get a little exercise by biking outside without freezing to death, I thought about it a bit and it seemed a reasonable suggestion (Phil is actually quite good at making reasonable suggestions for training for other people).

Mid to upper 40s, light NW breeze. Short loop on the flats. Could tell from my butt that I hadn't been biking for a few months. Could tell from my quads that I had been storing up the glycogen. And could tell from the hamstring that this was still a possible form of exercise. At least as long as the weather is benign, or at the gym I suppose.

-----------

And as to the question of what the hell was I doing speedwork for, I'd answer:

- From time to time it's fun to run faster than the usual plodding along.
- I'd had zero indications of any ailments in not just my hamstrings but the legs in general. And that includes no stiffness the day after the other times I've been to the track or run down at Forest Park in the last couple of months. And that also includes during the workout in question. Nothing. And then boom, out of the blue, no warning.
- And in general, I'd been paying very close attention to any signs the body was giving off and making adjustments according.

But sometimes things just happen. It seems to come with the territory of being out there. Still better than doing nothing.
