Monday Sep 30

orienteering 1:55:00 [1]
Picking up controls. Didn't feel like running much, so didn't.

Sunday Sep 29

orienteering 2:01:00 [3]
Checking points for day 2, 45 this time. Started at 6:30, just enough light to see, a little foggy, cool (low 40s). Good effort, legs had some life in the cool weather.
trail running 16:00 [3]
Had to carry some water out to a Red course control in the middle of the map. Stayed for a while to watch the first 10 or 12 come by (it was a chase start, so that didn't take long), then ran back.

Saturday Sep 28

orienteering 3:06:00 [2]
Checking all day 1 points (56 of them). Then headed home for a nap....

Friday Sep 27

orienteering 1:48:40 [3]8.2 km (13:15 / km) +500m 10:09 / km
spiked:35/35c
Checking more controls. Much better running weather, steady rain and in the 50s, had to keep moving just to stay warm. Forecast is for the rain to clear out tonight, good weather for the weekend.

Thursday Sep 26

orienteering 2:45:00 [2]
Checking controls, mix of running and walking.

Wednesday Sep 25

orienteering 3:10:00 [1]8 km (23:45 / km)
Hanging controls for this weekend. Mostly walking.

Tuesday Sep 24

biking 2:00:10 [3]
With Walter and Jack, up to Wendell and back. 35 miles. Biking is getting easier, too bad it doesn't seem to help my running much. But I am having fun.

Monday Sep 23

biking 1:14:21 [3]
Up to Lake Wyola and back. Tired starting, felt better after a while. 21 miles.

Sunday Sep 22

orienteering 41:30 [4]4.77 km (8:42 / km)
spiked:13/13c
Last leg of 8-pt relay. Didn't miss a thing but had zero energy. Pleasant surprise to come in first!

Relay - Green - Splits

Saturday Sep 21

orienteering 1:14:23 [3]6.34 km (11:44 / km)
spiked:17/17c
Red course at Vermont A meet. First out, first in -- started at 8:02, saw no one. Slow forest, ran trails when possible, energy not bad. No mistakes, but when you're walking up most hills and have plenty of time to read the map, there's no reason to make any mistakes. Fighting the feeling every time I was in the ferns that it was going to be a faster course later.

Red (Day 1) - Splits

Thursday Sep 19

orienteering 1:50:50 [2]
Vetting the last set of points for next weekend.

Wednesday Sep 18

biking 1:48:45 [3]
With Walter, in Conway, Goshen, Ashfield. 29 miles, 2300'. Pleasant ride, good company.

Tuesday Sep 17

biking 1:15:50 [3]
Up River Rd in Deerfield to Greenfield, back via Montague, flat to gently rolling. 22 miles.

Monday Sep 16

orienteering 1:41:15 [2]7 km (14:28 / km)
More vetting at the Notch, this time with more energy.

Sunday Sep 15

orienteering 4:36:00 [1]
Vetting points for the Troll Cup, mostly walking, but the last couple hours I was feeling tired and dehydrated anyway. Got a lot done, including rejecting a bunch of proposed control sites (and therefore also having to find replacements for them), but still 2/3 of day 2 points to do.

Saturday Sep 14

biking 2:44:55 [3]
In the hills west of the valley - Haydenville, Goshen, Ashfield, Conway. A breezy day, seemed like into the wind a lot of the time, but that's probably just an excuse for not feeling too lively. 45 miles, 2500'.

Thursday Sep 12

biking 2:01:53 [3]
Beautiful late afternoon ride in the hills west of Conway, with Walter and Jack. 32 miles, 2100'.

Wednesday Sep 11

orienteering 1:19:50 [3]5.8 km (13:46 / km)
Vetting points for the Troll Cup.
orienteering 1:09:02 [2]4.5 km (15:20 / km)
After a short break to drive to another access point, vetting more points, this time more walking (feeling rather beat...). 35 points checked for the day.

Tuesday Sep 10

biking 40:25 [3]
To Northampton via River Rd for a meeting. Nice timing, just after the fog lifted but before it got hot. 12 miles.
biking 37:12 [3]
Back home at noontime via Whately, getting hot, slight tailwind. 11.6 miles.

Monday Sep 9

biking 50:33 [3]
To Florence via River Rd. Pretty thick early morning fog along the river. 14.6 miles.
biking 51:58 [3]
Back home a little later via Northampton reservoir and Whately, rolling hills. Beautiful morning, will be hot later. 14.9 miles

Sunday Sep 8

canoe O' 1:01:40 [3]
Our once a year, or less often, canoe outing. Not so bad. We made an early start (8 am), so not much wind. See pawtuckaway for my routes and a few comments.
orienteering 1:02:03 [3]6.2 km (10:00 / km)
spiked:16/17c
See pawtuckaway for my routes and a few comments.

Red Day 2 - Splits

Saturday Sep 7

orienteering 55:23 [3]6 km (9:14 / km)
spiked:15/15c
UNO's Pawtuckaway camping weekend, a first-class event as usual. Good run. See pawtuckaway for my routes and a few comments.

Red Day 1 - Splits

Friday Sep 6

biking 36:42 [2]
Some errands, plus once up South Sugarloaf (8/10 mile, 450' climb) to see how it felt ... painful.

Thursday Sep 5

biking 1:54:11 [3]
With Walter up to Wendell and Lake Wyola. A fine ride -- good pavement, little or no traffic, pleasant late afternnon. Legs maybe getting a little better, or a little less feeble? Abour 32 miles.

Wednesday Sep 4

trail running 44:18 [3]5.0 mi (8:51 / mi)
On Mt. Toby, warm and very humid, felt very sluggish.

Tuesday Sep 3

biking 2:30:22 [3]
Around the range, flat to gently rolling, no significant hills. But body still isn't used to riding a bike. 44 miles. Don't know if the riding helps my orienteering fitness or not, but it adds some nice variety.

Sunday Sep 1

trail running 1:06:25 [4]8.2 mi (8:06 / mi)
Robert Frost loop. Good hard effort. Cooler weather (mid 60s, but still humid) makes it a lot easier.
