| trail running 44:49 [4] | ||
| shoes: Air Max Trail 09/05 | ||
| Frost trail from Mill River parking -- left turn away from Puffer's (8:18, Juggler Meadow (23:52), back to Puffers (38:14), last bit in 6:35. Working progressively harder, couldn't remember what I (or Phil) had run it in before, so that was motivation (see, if you don't know what the goal is, you have to go faster just in case the goal is faster than you imagined).
Perfect day, 60, low humidity.

| Usual Thursday evening group, though not many tonight, very windy after a front went through.
400 - 90.7, 400 - 88.9, 600 - 2:15.3, 800 - 3:05.9, 800 - 3:05.6, 600 - 2:17.8, 400 - 84.9, 400 - 85.4 Felt like each one would be my last, but when the next one started I was still there. The value of a group.

| trail running 46:02 [3] | ||
| shoes: Air Max Trail 09/05 | ||
| On Poet's Seat Ridge in Greenfield, a regular route in winter, but first time there for a couple of months. Felt better as time went on. | ||
Tuesday Sep 27 | ||
| trail running 45:38 [3] | ||
| shoes: Air Max Trail 09/05 | ||
| Up to the power line (17:29), Muck/Middle Mt/power line loop (14:11), and back(13:58). Felt sluggish but not terrible. Got to start doing some training. | ||
Sunday Sep 25 | ||
| Event: WCOC Trout Brook Valley C meet | ||

| Trout Brook Valley. Missed one control as bad as I've done in years (7-8 minutes?), plus a few other small bobbles. Yikes. Only smart move was recognizing that the advertised length (7.1) was probabaly long, and therefore I shouldn't be thinking, well, my time was still pretty decent. 50 minutes would have been decent.
I posted the map and some comments.

| track 18:16 [4]4.8 km (3:48 / km) | ||
| shoes: Air Max Trail 09/05 | ||
| At the track. Didn't feel great, didn't feel like going, didn't feel like running when I got there, felt lousy doing a short warm-up, thought I might quit after the first quarter or two, ended up doing the whole program. You never know. Sure helped to have company.
400 - 92.2, 400 - 89.6, 800 - 3:04.2, 1600 - 6:15.4, 800 - 3:02.1, 400 - 86.9, 400 - 85.7.

| Pisgah Trail Race. Didn't have good legs, perhaps because I haven't done much training this summer.... :-)
Ten minutes slower than last year, though it was cooler than last year. Not so warm today, about 70, but still pretty high humidity, was sweating a lot. But mainly just going slowly. May this will get me out the door for a little more training. Actually, I was thinking recently about goals for the fall, and the best I could come up with was to see if I could at least do a mile under 6 minutes. So I think I will put a little effort into that.

| track 17:44 [5]3.0 mi (5:54 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Air Max Trail 09/05 | ||
| Thursday evening group at the track, not so hot but very humid. Supposed to be 3 x (400, 400, 800) plus a final 400, but I cut the last 800 in half. Last 400 was pretty much all out.
91.2, 88.2, 3:02.6, 88.7, 86.9, 3:02.2, 88.2, 87.2, 88.4, 80.5.

| Mega course at Pawtuckaway. Really enjoyed it, despite not orienteering particularly well, and getting really tired at some point in the second hour. Walked a lot thereafter.
Company with Erik Osborn up though about 45, then I fell behind as I didn't see the root stock control on the map until Erik reminded me. Caught back up to him at 68, lost him for good after 72 (the Slot). For the rest of the way I was pretty much on my own, despite seeing others, mostly faster ones, for brief periods. Mihai passed me at 85 (I didn't see the control and circled around once), passed me again at 100, again at 123, then I was with him up to 128. No flag there, looked around a bit, not wanting to miss it and end up with only 202 controls, found a punch on the cround and hung it up as visibly as I could (Mihai had since returned, wondering if I'd found something). That was the last I saw of him. Hans Fransson went by about 154. Mike Waddington, Mark Adams, and Wil Smith cruised by at 159-160, Segei Z at 169, and that was about it. Perhaps I would have hung in better with some company, but I had a fine time. Nevertheless, I was glad I didn't have to do a second loop.

| 400 - 89.6, 400 - 89.3, 800 - 3:00.6, 400 - 88.6, 400 - 87.5, 800 - 3:01.5, 400 - 87.3, 400 - 86.0, skipped the last 800, enough was enough. But legs were ok. | ||

| Sugar-Gunn loop on Mt. Toby. Low 80s, but just felt hot and a bit of a struggle. New pair of shoes -- as usual the uppers on the last pair wore out before the soles. | ||
