Sunday Aug 26

trail running 1:56:37 [4]14.0 mi (8:20 / mi)
Mt. Toby race, 14 miles. Went out too fast, bonked big-time. A most unpleasant run!

Friday Aug 24

trail running 29:45 [3]3.5 mi (8:30 / mi)

Wednesday Aug 22

trail running 57:59 [2]5.5 mi (10:32 / mi)
Up Mt. Toby direct way, legs were elsewhere.

Sunday Aug 19

trail running 3:13:34 [4]20.0 mi (9:40 / mi)
Savoy 20-mile. Not bad, not great.

Friday Aug 17

trail running 30:22 [3]3.5 mi (8:39 / mi)
Uninspired, so quit early....

Wednesday Aug 15

With Phil on Mt. Toby

Social run (giving a guided tour of the Mt. Toby race course to a couple of first-time trail runners).

Monday Aug 13

trail running 53:58 [3]6.0 mi (8:59 / mi)
Perimeter trail at Northfield Mt (up one side, down the other).

Sunday Aug 12

road running 45:26 [2]5.2 mi (8:44 / mi)
Up S. Sugarloaf and and back, gently.

Saturday Aug 11

road running 5:00 [1]0.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
warm-up
road running 43:03 [5]6.21 mi (6:55 / mi)
Shelburne Falls 10K, cooler, but still warm. Felt not great, not terrible, only ran because I'd signed up a month ago (and to see a few friends). Splits: 6:45, 6:42, 9:04 (steep uphill!), 6:16 (down), 6:43, 6:19 (down), 1:14. Getting slower every year -- last year 42:45, best on course 39+.

Thursday Aug 9

trail running 46:37 [3]5.2 mi (8:57 / mi)
I had forgotten about the deer flies....

Wednesday Aug 8

trail running 1:12:56 [2]8.0 mi (9:07 / mi)
Welcome back to humidity! Dewpoint was 74 and energy level and enthusiasm were low. Highlight was stopping to try to cool off in a waterfall....

Saturday Aug 4

orienteering 39:09 [5]4.2 km (9:19 / km)
Started the day with a slim lead over the Frenchman who beat me a couple of weeks earlier and a bit more over a Finn. Figured I could lose by 2 minutes and be OK, 3 minutes would be not good.

Ended up second on the day to the Frenchman, 2:19 behind. Just good enough to squeak out first overall by a couple of points. A good run, no mistakes (well, maybe 15 seconds), but my legs weren't there on the uphills. Fortunately the course ended (as most do in Switzerland) with some wicked downhill and I can still run those pretty well.

(By the way, Sharon took first in D55, very easily. I think she won 5 of 6 days.)

Gail was 9th in France, mid-40's in Sweden (a couple of minutes behind Linda Kohn), and 29th in Switzerland.

Amazingly, neither of us came back with any significant ailments/injuries despite 16 events in 20 days. It helps when the courses are on the short side...

Friday Aug 3

orienteering 23:44 [5]2.6 km (9:08 / km)
Day 5, short course. First, by about 30 seconds. Missed early (1.5 minutes?), then ran perfect. Really a neat short course -- all sorts of variations in terrain. Wicked hot again.

Wednesday Aug 1

orienteering 36:01 [5]4.3 km (8:23 / km)
Day 4, near San Bernadino pass in Switzerland. 4th (but 6 minutes behind!). Pretty good run (1 minute errors), but early start and lots of tall grass (winner ran very late). Hard work as the air was a little thin (about 5,000'). but at least it wasn't as hot.
