Pound Ridge, Brown course, 3.5 km.
A wonderful day. Rendezvous at Pound Ridge with George and Lyn, Clint, Charlie, Phil, and JJ, plus Ching-Hua and Matt up from the city. Good hangout time before, even better afterwards, as Charlie had brought cupcakes to celebrate G&L's 50th wedding anniversary. Thinking back afterwards, what was different was almost no staring at the maps, talking about the orienteering. Much more about how life was.
And it seemed that for the most part life is not so bad.
And then home via Litchfield, a visit with Lina and Angelo (they took care of my mom for a long time). Charlie came along too, which was great. We all had had out shots, so for the first time in a year I went in someone's house. We sat at the big table in the kitchen, catching up, telling stories, just pure joy. I'd had the idea of going there on the way down to Pound Ridge, not sure, mentioned it to Charlie, he was in, texted Lina, and not much later we were there. Need to remember that, a good idea is only a good idea if you act on it.
As for the orienteering, it was excellent. No significant brain lapses. Very tired, but that's the new normal. And my right heel (where the Achilles attaches), which I seemed to have injured in my sleep Thursday night and must have iced a dozen times since then, seemed not just to survive the outing but actually get better. Hopefully it is just another of those ailments that have cropped up over the years, appear out of nowhere, stay for two or three days, and just as mysteriously disappear. I'd given serious thought to passing on the trip to Pound Ridge, but am so glad I didn't.
One more event in the HVO/WCOC series that is still available, Datar Mountain (Harriman). Farther to drive, but perhaps this coming weekend. And maybe carpooling is possible.
