orienteering 53:06 [4] 6.4 km (8:18 / km) +820ft 6:56 / km

Day 3 at "The Map Formerly Known as Blue Mountain" -- when Platt is involved, you know that one way or another some things are going to be weird (there is a big rock on the map called "Stenen Rock", Stenen being Swedish for "the rock", so it's really "The Rock Rock").

Bad day. Spiked #1, actually spiked the rock it was supposed to be on, but the control was on another rock about 70 meters away and I circled a bit before spotting it. Rather pissed (i.e. motivated), picked up the pace, made idiotic parallel error at #3 (having just picked up Lyn Walker, who will now never dare follow me again, she should know better). Now highly pissed and more motivated, ran hard to just about #8 when my calf cramped up on a steep downhill and it was hoppity-hop the last 2 km to the finish.

Only bright spot was my walk back out to #1 afterwards, where I discovered that Platt, who many years ago made some maps that one hopes for his sake have all been burned, is now mapping really well. Complicated rocky area was mapped perfectly.

orienteering 34:46 [4] 5.5 km (6:19 / km) +427ft 5:39 / km

Day 2 at Round Mountain. Calf felt a little better, and I was reasonably pissed from day 1 run, so I ran as hard as I could. Maybe 30 seconds of errors. Only problem was calf started to complain more seriously as a result of the faster pace. But a good (and fun) run and lots of heavy breathing.

orienteering 42:40 [3] 4.5 km (9:29 / km) +591ft 7:54 / km

Ash Fest day 1 (Manitou Lake). Calf sore, took it careful on the running. I would also say took it easy, even though that's not compltely true as I was feeling the altitude and breathing pretty hard even running downhill.

Crappy run, missed a couple of controls and bad execution on one leg.

Note

Been to canyon country in SE Utah, now in SW Colorado. Calf still sore, don't know how much O' I'll be doing at the Ash Fest.

orienteering 29:35 [4] 3.4 km (8:42 / km)

US Relay Champs. Ran on CSU B team (Karen, me, Kenny, Boris), finished 2nd behind DVOA, just ahead of other CSU team (Dan, Suzanne, Ross, Will).

Decent run, but left something to be desired in effort (should have been a minute faster). Calf started hurting pretty bad after 2nd control, but didn't really slow me down. Felt terrible afterwards....

Terrain was ok, but yesterday was more pleasant. I'll post maps in a week when I'm home.
