orienteering 52:10 [4] 5.9 km (8:51 / km)
ahr:148 max:164

WCOC local meet at Brookvale. Warm day, felt tired, but not too bad. Routes and comments.

orienteering 33:15 [3] 3.6 mi (9:14 / mi)
ahr:144 max:161

After a short break did the Orange course. No energy or will power every time it went uphill.

rogaining 2:48:00 [1]

An outing with Fred in Savoy SF, mostly walking. Trashy forest, steep in places, good practice.

Friday Apr 16, 2004 #

track 44:16 [2] 5.25 mi (8:26 / mi)

Before (a couple miles on the track), in between, and after (a couple miles on easy trails) the intervals.

track 8:48 [5] 1.5 mi (5:52 / mi)
max:169

6 x 400 (87.3, 88.9, 85.8, 88.2, 87.1, 84.5) with a slow 400 in between. Last one was harder effort - I thought we were doing eight, but Phil announced that #6 was his last, so there was no choice. Felt lousy to start, a little better as time went on. Windy and a bit cold.

Note

Tax season is over! Hooray.
Managed to do really good training despite working plenty of hours. Mainly just made it a priority - scheduled time to run early each afternoon and worked earlier and later to make up. Also had lots of runs in the terrain (off trails). There was one day when I started trying that and it was such good fun despite the snow and slop that I just kept doing it. Much better training for O'. Also dropped about 7 pounds to get back to where I used to be.

trail running 54:52 [3]
ahr:144 max:162

Perimeter trail at Northfield Mountain, pretty good effort.

Wednesday Apr 14, 2004 #

part trail, part woods 1:03:43 [3]
ahr:147 max:166

Willis Hill in Montague. All but the first few and last few minutes were in the woods, so I was soon soaking wet even though it hadn't rained since last night. Good effort, working on running technique (picking the feet up, maintaining momentum over deadfall, running a straighter line....).

trail running 48:02 [3]

On Poet's Seat ridge above Greenfield, all I had time for.
