Note

Saw Gran Torino last night, loved it (as did Gail). One of the previews was for something called Watchman. Looked just dreadful. Although Gail said that both theaters it was playing in were sold out. Guess I'm just out of touch, no surprise there.

Also, slowly working my way through Animal's People. Wonderful, fictional but based on life after the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal, India. I don't have much time to read, but get through a chapter or two each night before bed.

road running 21:44 [3] 2.57 mi (8:27 / mi)
weight:142.5lbs

The usual struggle to do not very much, in this case the little loop in town. Lovely afternoon, shorts and a t-shirt.

I have to believe that when I finally do some orienteering this spring it's going to be really really slow. Only hope is to get the G down. Still on plan.

road running 32:14 [3] 3.79 mi (8:30 / mi)
weight:142.5lbs

Side streets in Greenfield (route). Felt slow and a little sore but not so much as to quit. And the ipod died. Well, not permanently, I just need to remember to charge it every once in a while.

Nice day, 50s, shorts. And now that I see the pace, 8:30 is just about what I should be doing.

Friday Mar 6, 2009 #

rogaine base building 14:25 [1] 1.0 mi (14:25 / mi)
weight:142.5lbs

A nice day out but stayed inside so I could quit if I needed to. Warm-up, 5%.

treadmill 26:26 [3] 3.0 mi (8:49 / mi)

Three miles, flat, 9:10, 8:40, 8:36. A little sore, don't know if I should have stopped or not.

rogaine base building 14:00 [1] 1.0 mi (14:00 / mi)

A nice day out, upper 30s, but figured it was smarter to stay inside since I could stop more easily if the legs acted up. First a mile walking, 5%.

spinning 5:00 [3]

Then a little time on the bike, standing, gets the heart going.

treadmill 17:50 [3] 2.0 mi (8:55 / mi)

Then 2 miles flat, 9:10, 8:40. Legs seemed to survive.

spinning 5:00 [3]

And then back on the bike. Pulse on the treadmill (running) was about 135, about 150 on the bike.

weight:142.5lbs

I do a modest bit of pro bono work, though I suppose yesterday's doesn't really count, since the client arrived with quite a lot of chocolate (about 8 bucks worth) as a substitute payment. And then today one of my favorites stopped by with some carrot cake cupcakes, delicious. I doubt that either offering is good for me. But I figure as long as I eat them before dinner it's ok.

Note

Had what I would assume is one of my smartest clients this evening, a nuclear engineer, these days he works with designing the process of how nuclear plants transport and store (all on site) their nuclear waste, mainly at Vermont Yankee just up the river from us but also consulting around the country. Very interesting conversation. Got the name of a book to read, have to put it on the list.

It took a concerted effort to squeeze in the actual doing of his taxes.

It's the variety of characters I meet that makes this all so interesting. And you can ask them anything.

Wednesday Mar 4, 2009 #

rogaine base building 27:20 [2] 2.0 mi (13:40 / mi)

Maybe a little better today. Wanted to try a little running again, but figured a good warm-up first might be a good idea. So walked a couple of miles, 5%, fast as I could.

spinning 2:00 [2]

Then a slight diversion, got on one of the bikes a tried a little standing up (I'm supposed to phase into riding a bike sitting down....) and that was fine, so now I need to put the bike shoes in the pack.

treadmill 9:27 [3] 1.0 mi (9:27 / mi)

And then managed to run a mile, flat, without having to cut it short because my legs were hurting. Didn't go any further, no point in pushing my luck.

Not sure, but it's possible the flooding was just a little less than usual. I sure was trying.

Note

G starting March 1: 144, 142, 143, 142.5
Sticking to my plan, 4 days with no 6th meal, 86 to go.

yoga 45:00 [1]

Usual Tuesday morning class. I don't set an alarm but I seem to wake up at the right time anyway (a little before 6, compared to the usual 6:30, where the "usual" is basically whenever it gets light). Somehow it works.

Decided there was no reason to go to either the Quantico or Cincinnati meets. It's one thing to not be in shape. It's another to not know if you'll be running at all or not.

I'm still wondering what the story is on a couple of issues that were raised regarding the QOC event -- what the club is doing (or has done) with the ~75K it had in the bank, and what a rough budget for the A meet is. I think both are valid questions. The first both for how it got the money (might help other clubs to know) and how it plans to spend it (again, might be instructive), and the second, again, for opening up about what it really costs to run an event. I don't see why both shouldn't gladly be made public.

rogaine base building 41:18 [1] 3.0 mi (13:46 / mi)

Just more walking on the treadmill, 5%, a little quicker.

Monday Mar 2, 2009 #

rogaine base building 42:22 [1] 3.0 mi (14:07 / mi)
weight:142lbs

Back to the treadmill, 5%.

The TV in the locker room was going on about how Rush Limbaugh is now the de facto leader of the GOP. One can only hope. Of course they were doing a pretty good job of self-destructing even without him.
