Around both Sugarloafs, plus a detour towards the end to go up south Sugarloaf, which was a bit of a struggle. Low 20s and a brisk NW wind, felt cold because we've had so little cold weather and not used to it. But at least I remembered at the last moment to take my warmer gloves.

Legs felt good to start, and beat by the end. Ten miles is still a long run.

First snowstorm in quite a while, certainly at least half an inch, maybe as much as an inch in some places. What a winter.

Short run around Greenfield. Felt a bit tired and achy so this seemed like just the right amount of effort. Maybe longer tomorrow, see how I feel, not supposed to be a strenuous week.

Nice to get it done with.
And in other news, the Western Mass 5 Day (see here and here) is pleased to announce that event #3, the sprint late Saturday afternoon, will be a joint venture with the UMass philosophy department. And thanks to them we have permission!

Off to the Smith track at 6:30, sky was lightening and the full moon about to set. Passed the turn to River Road, considered waiting 30 minutes and joining Ali for a rollerski session, but then I don't have any rollerskis, don't know how to rollerski, and it would ruin her workout because she would be laughing so hard.

So onward to the track. A couple of miles warm-up.

track 30:01 intensity: (29 @1) + (4:47 @2) + (9:54 @3) + (6:10 @4) + (8:41 @5) 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

6 x 800 on a 5-minute cycle. Was figuring to do about 3:20 but they slowly got quicker as the heart rate slowly inched higher. Took the usual bit of mental fortitude to stick to the plan, but never had any thoughts of stopping early.

3:26, 3:21, 3:19, 3:17, 3:15, 3:09.

track 4:22 intensity: (25 @2) + (3:57 @3) 0.5 mi (8:44 / mi)
ahr:142 max:149 shoes: pegasus #2

And a slow half-mile and then off to work.

Note

Very excellent celebration with the ski-O stars -- first-class food and even a bottle of champagne, plus good tales and laughs.

We are so lucky.

Trails on Greenfield ridge, still ice in a few places but mostly fine.

Wasn't planning on running today, and perhaps shouldn't, but it was such a nice day, upper 40s and sunny, that it seemed necessary to get out just for mental health. Legs a little tired but not sore.

Listened to music by Philip Glass the whole way.

No, no, just kidding....
