road running 56:13 [3] 5.79 mi (9:43 / mi) +501ft 8:59 / mi
shoes: Brooks something-or-others

Ran the cart path around the Jones 18. Very pleasant, light rain so no one out. And certainly cooler than yesterday, so made it up all the hills, though the last one was not with much to space.

But good willpower getting it done. Had just finished tromping around the other 18 in the rain, up and down, so the legs already had done a little work. Felt tired for the run, but not too bad.

trail running 40:01 [3] 4.0 mi (10:00 / mi) +576ft 8:48 / mi
shoes: pegasus 4

Hitchcock Woods in Aiken, SC. 5:30 pm and it was still 75F, and I was dehydrated to start, so I was croaked pretty solidly. One of those runs where all you can say is, At some point in the future this will do me some good.

Up early, on the course by 2:30, sunny and 65. No complaints, totally enjoyable.

treadmill 42:09 [3] 5.0 mi (8:26 / mi)
weight:138lbs shoes: pegasus 4

Blowing hard enough outside that inside was preferable. Included 4 half miles at 8-minute pace and then one at 7:30. Never felt hard, though I also wasn't inclined to try one more at 7-minute pace.

Watching CNBC. Better than the other options (CNN, TNT, FoxNews, and a couple others I haven't identified), but still needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

treadmill 34:26 [3] 4.0 mi (8:37 / mi)
weight:138.5lbs shoes: pegasus 4

Well, this was OK. Not sure how much I wanted to do and it was windy and snowing outside, so the treadmill beckoned. Legs were tired to start, but then better.

A mile at 9-minute pace, then alternating quarters at 8- and 9-minute pace. Time actually passed rather quickly.

What counts for a long run these days, and it felt like it, felt beat by halfway, walked up one hill for 1:40. Better change those odds to 50-20-5. Though I will keep trying. :-)

Though maybe it was just the effect of the depressing podcast I was listening to. Fresh Air is my stand-by and it is almost always enjoyable, plus I usually learn something, even sometimes something useful, like the existence of Better Call Saul which I have been enjoying even though I never saw Breaking Bad.

But FA only lasts for 45 minutes, whereas This American Life goes for an hour, so today it was TAL, a show from a couple of months ago (though apparently a rebroadcast from 2006) about things or feelings that seem to last forever.

Four episodes, the subjects were being made fun of in school, being rejected by a girlfriend, an unusual real estate deal, and a joke for which there was never quite the right time to tell it.

And four protagonists. And I would say that 3.5 of them were jerks. I'm trying to be charitable.

So it wasn't particularly funny, or enlightening, or interesting. I was left to wonder why Ira put together such a show, and then why 8 years later he queued it up for a rerun.

Or maybe just my grumpiness asserting itself? And it has to affect my energy levels, right? :-)
