road running 1:25:41 [3] 9.15 mi (9:22 / mi) +245ft 9:08 / mi
weight:136lbs shoes: pegasus 4

That was pretty depressing. Legs quite dead. Plan was for twice around a 5-mile loop. By three miles I knew that I was going to stop after one lap, and even doing that much would not be fun. And at the same time I was recalculating the Boston odds as 50-20-0 (when if I had a brain they would be 0-x-x). Morale was not good.

So I went straight when the route to the car went right, having figured that made the shortest route back about 7 or 8, but no hills until the end, just the wind. Felt a little better as long as the wind was with me, but then back into it was not good, even if it was flat. So the last mile and a half was the old familiar ultra game, walk a minute, run a couple, repeat until you're there. I can do that for quite a while if I have to. But I never used to have to at 7 miles.

Not good.

track 24:52 [3] 3.0 mi (8:17 / mi)
weight:135lbs shoes: Brooks something-or-others

Wasn't planning on running today, quite depleted (witness the morning weight), but the weekend is supposed to be very windy so I figured I would save a day off for then. So off to the Eaglebrook track (which was 100% clear of snow) for a mellow tempo run.

First a mile to warm-up (8:38), then 2 miles a little quicker (8:14, 8:00). Felt like more effort than it should have, of course, but that is just a reflection of reality. Normally the point of this would be to find a pace I could stick to for quite a few miles, but today I don't think I could have stuck to any pace for quite a few miles. Definitely counting off the laps.

Just after I got there a security guard pulled up, wondering if I had authority to be there, ie. some connection to the school. But he was a friendly guy and I made a good enough case, and we had a nice chat. And off he went. :-)

road running 1:31:53 [3] 10.0 mi (9:11 / mi) +540ft 8:44 / mi
weight:137lbs shoes: pegasus 4

North along the river, back over Taylor Hill. A little bit warmer than I would have cared for (upper 50s) and getting pretty tired, though not totally croaked. Ran the whole way, but very slowly up Taylor Hill.

Don't know where another 16 miles is going to come from. But at least I got today done.

Day off tomorrow probably and then another of these on the weekend. Hopefully the body will bend but not break.

road running 45:04 [3] 5.07 mi (8:53 / mi) +260ft 8:29 / mi
weight:137lbs shoes: pegasus 4

Back roads in Deerfield. Nice afternoon, mid-40s. Reasonably comfortable pace.

Ten tomorrow is the plan.

Weight is coming down right on schedule. Two more to go.

road running 1:07:54 [3] 7.56 mi (8:59 / mi) +464ft 8:29 / mi
weight:137.5lbs shoes: pegasus 4

Lower and Upper Roads in Deerfield, pleasant enough outing, legs not terrible, just trying to do 9-minute pace. Though the idea of doing the loop 2.5 more times seems a bit much.

It's too late to do any really long runs. Plan for the next couple of weeks is leave the mileage about the same but run fewer days, so maybe 35 in 5 days this week and in 4 days next week. Then easy the last week and see how it goes three weeks from today.
