hike 1:00:00 [1] 1.2 mi (50:00 / mi) +46ft 48:15 / mi
weight:142.5lbs

Another of my outings, most of which aren't logged, with a triple purpose -- get a little exercise, explore someplace I haven't been, and take the binoculars and camera in case I see something interesting.

Today was in the woods just south of the confluence of the Deerfield and Connecticut rivers. Lots of underbrush, fortunately not of the thorny variety but at times hard to get through. Still several inches of snow.

Legs aren't capable of much these days, and I don't really think things are going to improve. So it goes...

Note

To NYC to visit my sister (and her husband). She's been in the hospital for three weeks, not doing well at all. Very glad I went (should have gone sooner, but he wasn't encouraging it, or so it seemed, so eventually I decided I didn't need to wait for an invitation).

Lung/breathing issues plus a fever, tubes down her throat so she couldn't talk. She looked pretty miserable, though actually not as bad as I had expected. But if she does survive this, I'd guess the recovery process will be long and difficult.

He's not well either (heart issues of long duration), and he seemed pretty down about what had happened to his wife. But he was glad to see me. We talked for quite a while, and I'd venture that the conversation was as easy, or even easier, than it has ever been.

As I said, should have gone sooner. I'll go again before too long.

Exploring a bit of forest I'd never been in before -- a good bit of brushy areas but also some pretty spots. And a few inches of snow on the ground to make it more interesting.
