Flattish loop in Deerfield and Montague, very modest effort. Just what the doctor ordered.

A "metric century" "gravel grinder" with the start/finish in Ashford, CT. Seemed appealing, so I got myself up on the early side and went. Rode around mostly by myself, as is usual. Expectation was 12 mph, or in the vicinity of 5 hours, so nailed that pretty good. Effort was steady -- I wasn't dogging it but I also wasn't pushing it to meet some goal (the 12 mph / 5 hours was just a guess how long it might take, not a target). Certainly pushed harder last Saturday in VT. But my guess is the legs will still have noticed the effort.

A little more in the comments.

Started in Haydenville, went over to Westhampton to check out Phil's wall and perhaps even summon up the courage to try to get up it. Good breeze out of the south, so into it on the way over, took it easy. Worked harder on the way back.

As for the wall, well, it's a steep little pitch, but very short and only about 20 yards verges on being real steep. Had one gear to spare, though I was losing momentum just at the end. Under normal conditions (ie. no ego on the line) I would have just put it in first gear and cruised up.

Certainly no reason to turn around and search an alternate route... :-)

Nice to get out, but my legs are still tired.

From Shelburne Falls. Easy ride up to Charlemont with a nice tailwind, then the serious part, East Hawley Road. 33:15, a few seconds quicker than last, essentially the same. And then a longer route back, a couple of smaller climbs, ending up with a long downhill. Seemed rather tired afterwards, maybe that way all along?

Nice day but a little warm, low 80s.

Very pleasant ride with Gail and Charlie. Pleasant Valley to Riverton to Route 8, out the west side, back the east side. Found $7 along the way.

4 PM

biking - dark blue bike 45:45 intensity: (2:14 @1) + (12:18 @2) + (19:04 @3) + (10:35 @4) + (1:34 @5) 7.6 mi (6:01 / mi) +1381ft 5:08 / mi
ahr:135 max:166

And then back to Charlie's, similar route to on July 4th, but Charlie suggested going over the hills to New Hartford instead of the flat and slightly shorter route I took last time, so over I went.

Extra 300' of climb and 1/10 mile long. I was only a minute slower so happy with that. Certainly working hard at the end on the serious climbs.

Went for an easy ride with Dave in south Amherst. Very pleasant.
