Warming-up for the national race

Orienteering race 19:41 [5] 3.92 km (5:01 / km) +52m 4:43 / km

I didn't expect anything like this, but it went actually pretty good. You'd think that after yesterday's race and running 2 hours over not eating for ten hours would've killed me, but I managed to push pretty hard.

I almost fell in the stairs next to the first control - I mean, seriously, a control at the top of stairs made of marbre during a heavy ran? How could I slide on that! - and got surprised by the second control. I made a mistake in my routechoice for the 3rd control, loosing 25'' on Vicky - this is interesting, because we ran pretty much at the same speed for the rest of the race - and more than 50'' on Fafa. From there on, Vicky was not too far behind me so it was an interesting for the Gegnerkontakt. I didn't make too many mistakes for the rest of the race, and finished rather satisfied - apart from the 3rd leg and considering saturday.

MOM in Arcegno. I guess this wasn't the best preparation I've had for a swiss champs. We took the bus from Neuchatel and got stuck in the traffic before the Gotthard. Three hours? Problem was, the plan was to go and eat in Tenero - our accomodation - at 12, therefore those with late-ish starts didn't have to take a picnic. We didn't make it in time, so we drove directly to the competition center. Sadly, we arrived too late for me to be able to eat something, mainly, to be able to digest it before leaving. I basically had to choose between having nothing in the stomach except what I'd eaten at 6 a.m. or risking throwing up. I decided no to eat anything - I still don't know which solution was the best? Anywho, it's not the kind of decision you want and like to take before running swiss champs.

I arrived at the start with tired legs. The first loop was okay, I guess, not too many mistakes. I tried to adapt the speed to my condition and my map reading to my speed, to avoid mistakes. That worked not so bad until the long routechoice, where I screwed up and ended up far away from the control. From there on, I slowed my pace and focused on the technical part, which worked pretty well. I arrived at the competition center feeling dizzy and didn't have all my balance. Really strange feeling, combined with a massive headache and sweat AND freezing (yup, at the same time) the whole night (+sunday/monday).

1st stage of the tour du canton. I decided to run with my Inov-8, for I knew most of the race would be run on a narrow path. Combining this with the rain of the last few days, you get some nice mud. I really enjoyed running amidst all the runners trying to avoid the mud and running on the side of the tracks :)

I started slowly -maybe a bit too much?- with Lea and Sandra, then sped up near the end of the uphill. From there, it was -almost- only downhill, so I could run at a nice pace. In the end, I ran in 58'30'' - 59'46'' according to datasport, my time being from the start line - with an overall good feeling.
