Langdale Horseshoe (English Fell Champs) - 26th

Really excited about this one. Didn't really know what to expect as my first proper long fell race. Didn't really know how to play it either so just went for it.
Thankfully we had great weather so it was awesome!

Started quite hard, pushing on the first hill to get on the back of Jonny, chasing down the lead pack. Summited with him at the second checkpoint but on the first descent through a marsh he just flew away.

I couldn't work out if I was just being a pansy or not pushing hard enough on the down but I consistently lost most of my time on the descents throughout the day.

I went down twice on the first and so felt like I was pushing but I definitely need more practice - not even the best guys are in a different league!

Could hold my own in the climbs though and managed to hang onto a group with Jack Wood for a while. Food and drink went down well after 45mins and I felt steady but just didn't have the strength for it - think I may have gone a bit too hard too early.

Jack Wright and Barber came flying past as if I was just standing and from about 12km it just became a job of hanging in.

I was still only a couple of minutes back at the top of Pike O Blisco but made a big error on the descent. Went far too left, hit the top of a crag and couldn't see anyone ahead or anyway down. After 30sec standing still and finally looking at the map, I turned right only to see a group of 8 guys storm past on the correct line - crap!

I pushed hard on the descent to hold my position but again I was just leaking time.

Happy with the time but not too pleased with the result or how I felt throughout. It was all very distinctly average.

I guess it will come with doing more races like this and building on my tactics of when to push. I want to work hard to be better - I want more from a race like that.
