Running race 43:08 [5] 11.5 km (3:45 / km) +200m 3:27 / km
shoes: Inov8 Bare-Grips

Northern XC Champs - 48th

Mixed race - happy about my effort towards the end, but could have and should have run a lot better.

L hamstring had been playing on my mind for the last few days. Felt okay in the WU but glute still a little touchy and tight.

Started well - not going stupid but not holding back. Found myself surrounded by Durham XC lads from Uni days, and immediately latched on the back of Matt Barnes (Sale) as I was only 10m off him in the last Manc XC League.

I found the first 5km really easy and cruisey. Just trying to eye up the course and relax on Matt's shoulder. I think I was a little too surgey on the hills/ descents through 3-5km, pissing off a few people and not helping my rhythm.

At 5/5.5k I started to hurt and Matt and another Sale who I normally easily trash pulled away. I kept working and didn't drop too far but not on their pace. Pushed hard over the second lap to get back on the shoulder of Pat Vis (ex-Durham who used to smash me). And managed to upset the Leeds train a bit by taking Pat and a couple of others in the last K.

Good: form against old Durham runners.
Bad: Matt Barnes came 30th and I should have been up there also. Looking at results 32-36 were all those at Manc League I normally get.

Hoping it;s just the hamstring and I ran a little more conservatively because of it. I also felt knackered and weak throughout - so it could have been that haha.

Looking forward to starting Intervals work and getting some more endurance and strength come Nationals.

Running too hard to get the train. Missed it. Wanted to do a threshold session but L hamstring was hurting and I was feeling pretty knackered.

Just stuck to some drills. In heinsight this was a mistake as I think it just aggravated my hamstring more
