MACCL - Wythenshaw Park

Last in the Manc XC league and Chorlton went out with a bang! 1st Men’s team! Big win in the clubs history!

6th place for me which was great.

Very wet, very thick mud round the entire course - very little let up with some tight corners and good competition.

Started strongly, sticking with the chasing pack. Sat in about 7/8th and pushing well with Callum Rowlinson from Sale. Couldn’t quite keep with him but started to work really well with Gareth from Sale. We kept each other on the pace and were well matched. Started to reel in a Horwich runner and then Dave Norman on the 2nd lap. Horwich was dead and gone but Dave hung on and was pushing hard.

Lots of tactical running to get in the front position before corners or tight passes through gates.

We popped out of the final wooded section and were three across in the final 200m across the swampy finish straight. Had to give it all but Gareth was just that bit stronger. Dave was still attacking hard but somehow got that extra gear with the help of lots of cheering. Just beat Dave in for 6th. Cracking race! Never been so muddy!

Gorgeous frozen morning - managed to hold it at an uncomfortable pace with still a little more there. Tried to stick around 3:40s but kept to an intensity more than anything.

Cautley Spout in the snow - epic

Attempt a 5min hills up the calf. Was very slow hard going as the snow was very slippery and very deep in places. Made it 3 reps and then turned half way up the Calf as there was a white out and the drifts were getting deep and unpredictable.

Back into the valley above Cautley and hit 2 good 5 minutes of hard along the technical little paths.

Wanted some more hill climbing so attempted 1 min hills up the Spout itself but it was a no go as too slippery.

Good session though and glutes are absolutely mashed.

Heaviest DOMS for a while in the evening and morning.

Quick buzz round Dunham Massey

Cadence was very high (probably due to the added stress of being very tight for time), felt good and strides felt rapid. Two days of rest has paid out. A good break at the transition into this next block
