Orienteering race 1:39:04 [4] ***** 11.5 km (8:37 / km)

JK Day 3.
Felt average.

Marginally better navigation than yesterday. Made far fewer mistakes, but did make one very big one - 18 minutes! Made much better use of the paths and unmarked sheep tracks today. I thought this would translate into a better time, but alas, it was almost as bad as yesterday. Had to guess at distance as GPS was dead.

JK Day 2 - M21S.
Felt average. Definitely lacking in terrain fitness.

Slept poorly as the caravan was freezing and the duvet very thin. I kept having to get up to add clothing. Navigated abysmally, as expected - I have done hardly any orienteering over the last 4 years. Aside from my lack of map reading ability (not being able to read the contours), it was a very difficult area. There were virtually no line features on the map, not even streams, thus it was extremely difficult to relocate once you lost touch. Training wise this was a great run, as it was long (4k longer than actual course length) and the terrain used muscles I hadn't used for a while. From the aches I have, it has definitely strengthened my lateral leg muscles and given me good all round strength training.

JK Sprint.
Felt grumpy.

Departed more than 5hrs before my start time, to do a 3hr journey. Realised that I wasn't going to make it on time after being delayed by an accident on the M4, so decided to divert to camp site rather than sit in traffic for another hour and a half. Was tired and in a bad mood after that. Should have gone for a training run, but just had a sleep in the caravan instead.

Ok, I'm now training for a marathon. Hopefully sub 3, but who knows? The exact date of the marathon is some nebulas point between September and the end of the year. If you know of a good marathon happening between those dates, please let me know. Currently I'm considering the Cologne Marathon (looks to be around 100m of climb - so flatter than London) and the Raceways Autumn Shakespeare Marathon (very flat - in laps of 5k).

My current training paces from the Runner's World training pace calcualtor are:
Your easy run training pace is: 5:18 min/km
Your tempo run training pace is: 4:25 min/km
Your VO2-max training pace is: 3:59 min/km
Your speed form training pace is: 3:41 min/km
Your long run training pace is: 5:18 - 6:00 min/km
