Lots on wet thick grass...on a cooler non-humid day on nice bouncy track in light racing shoes probably 4:30 pace.

Light rain when I started...stopped by 1.25 miles...became very nice...only 71 when I finished!! Duluth ( I noticed 2 blocks away there was a car with a Minnesota plate). Had semi-heat stroke yesterday...dehydration headache even though I thought I hydrated and replaced minerals, electrolytes, etc...don't know if coincidence but ate a few pieces of peppermint and began to feel better immediately...

About 70% humidity...enough to make it feel like altitude...tired and sore but able to continue to do short speed bursts...don't think I did any over 100 yards and most were half that or even less at first. Putting the feeling of speed in my legs more than my track stuff of past couple of years has...almost went to track today...may do a 5k or 5 mile time trial/workout in next week or two...IF I don't blow up again.

First mile probably about 17:15; at 2M 31:00 last 1.5 14:54. walked first mile until I reached first jogable grass areas...slow jogging at first with continued walk breaks...at 2M turned with wind at back...it was hot and humid...I ran some quick 200mt plus surges last 1.5...mostly stopped when my body temperature was about 315 degrees or so it felt.

Had thought I could run and do 5...was prepared for reducing to 4. Just never got going...was trotting along here and there and shut it down to way more walking and trying to do a few little stride outs...last 1.25 or so was able to do 20 to 30 yards of surges...I just cannot get going on these early morning workouts without my 30 to 60 min warmups....

First half just trotted along for 10 to 20 steps between walking but around half to three quarters started doing 'speed bursts' where I felt like I was pushing off the ground with my feet rather than dragging and shuffling and also getting some leg turn over...even doing my 100's a lot of times my lack of speed fitness in my heart and lungs as much as my legs keeps me from getting that feel of sprinting versus just running fast...er.

Did about 20 to 25 strides per burst once I got loosened up and for half mile with wind at my back I was really 'going'...when I first started doing walk jog stuff 7 or 8 years ago I did a lot of short hard speed bursts and could average under 9 minute pace even with slow trotting along between burst...averaged 8:30 or so a few times...just for 2 or 3 milers.
