running (OC Trail 2.5 mile loops) 52:27 [3] 5.0 mi (10:29 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Ghost 9
Slow start again. About 3:10 for first quarter. But the second lap I got going without really doing anything. Pushed a little but mostly just speeded up. It does feel like my stride/body are adjusting to the chiropractic manipulations in a good way. I did not start out dragging a leg or foot just slow...its as if the muscles are being used a little differently...at least that is what I hope.
1m 11:54
2m 22:51
2.5 28:05 first leg
3M No split but about 33:10 most likely
4M 43:11 (15:06 for 1.5 mile or 10:03 pace)
5M 52:27 (9:16 last mile)
I was watching NCAA T&F championships in Austin, Tx while warming up...right before I left for OC campus one of the announcers was talking about sprinting and said something interesting. He said most people think of pushing off with their feet when you should really be lifting your legs...that described my philosophy all along. So with about 2 mile or so to go I started thinking in terms of lifting...I didn't feel anything physically but I just decided to do this mental thing and think lift. I speeded up even more but it was not some magical feeling or moment of eureka either.
No strides today. I just managed to dodge all kinds of rain and storms...it did start to rain as I started and I drove thru a small downpour on the way so I figured the trail was flooded but it was not too bad...and even tho in the past I did not like the gravel...I'm running on it more and more and liking it. With all the soft conditions a lot of the gravel is being washed out on slopes and also pushed down into the ground making it more pleasant to run on.
For now I accept I'm just burning calories and toning muscles. The pace I'm running and the way my running stride feels I'm doomed to shuffling.
