Note
(sick)

Really happy with the results, but more importantly, the performances, over the last week or so.
Came away with 5/5, and no heavy trophies to carry home, which is the best result possible really! (as I don't count as an Aussie)

Raced through the sickness over the weekend. Time will tell if this was an idiotic thing to do. Plan is to do next to nothing this week and let the body recover.

Orienteering race 45:30 [4] 7.0 km (6:30 / km)
(sick)

Aus relay champs, running 3rd in an NZ team with Laura (1) and Alice Tilley (2).
Shame to not have a Cockies team, but cool to run with the Kiwis :)

Was given the best possible position by the first two, heading out well in front of the Aussie state teams on the 3rd leg. Took wide right to the first control, having seen others go this way. But 40m in I realised i'd have picked a straighter route if I'd started as in an individual. Ah well.
Lost 45s in the circle as the control description was wrong and had been changed with a black marker...which in the rain I'd taken to be a squashed fly on my map!
Steady run from there, a few places where I lost time trying to make sense of the rock mapping. And a large chunk of time (3min+) lost on #9 where the map just...?! Even despite been warned about this one by Laura! Eventually found the control wedged down in a crevise in the smallest cliff ever. I hadn't seen the feature, let alone the flag until my 3rd pass through the area!

Anyway, kept it steady for a comfortable win.

Orienteering race (Aus Long Champs) 1:10:30 [4] 10.7 km (6:35 / km)
(sick)

Had a comfortable, clean race on a pretty open map with clusters of rock detail. Had last start with Laura then Aislinn in front of me. Caught sight of them at #4 before catching at #6 and passing to #8. Did well in not pushing myself faster just to get away, just concentrated on keeping my own pace. Pulled away on the long leg 8-9 where I went left to the fast running gully. Spotted Krystal, Bridget and Clare at #9, and Mary at #11, then was on my lonesome for the rest.
Not the best route to #14 as I opted for the open gully again, where as to the right should have been a bit faster.
Started feeling really rough towards the end, so eased off a fair bit physically knowing I just had to keep it clean to take the win. Which I did, happily :)

A couple of misses in the circles, and that one route choice, but overall happy with the performance.
Felt pretty fine cold-wise while running, but felt it like anything afterwards.

Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [2]

12 PM

Running 38:00 [3] 7.0 km (5:26 / km)

Went for a jog to see if I was capable of breathing while running, and if racing tomorrow was even a possibility.

Made it up the hills to kings park still alive so cruised around the sandy tracks and back to the apartment.

Orienteering 12:33 [4]

Aus sprint champs.

Very tight race with Laura, never more than 10s apart. Going to have to lift my game! ;)

Very rusty the whole way around. a couple of decidedly not optimal routes (not helped by larger than marked construction), a small buggy that kept stopping right in front of me, and just slow reactions in general.
Once again lucky that Laura missed the last control as much (and a little more) than me, or she'd have had the win!

Orienteering warm up/down 25:00 [3]

Orienteering race 34:00 [3]

Aus Middle Champs.

Great fun, technically not too difficult. A couple of slips in areas where I couldn't read the map on the run for fear of breaking my ankle on all the little rocks on the ground. Should have stopped (duh).
And the 3rd to last control, where I visited all the wrong rock clusters in the high undergrowth, before finally finding mine on the last one.

Laura only 30s behind... Very lucky she messed up the same controls as me!

Orienteering race 57:00 [3]

Not sure what was going on with times, but my watch has me a minute faster than the official results.

WA long distance. Typical Gully Spur stuff, but with spikey WA bushes. Reasonably clean run, a couple of hesitations when I wasn't sure of my bearing on vague parts. And a couple of times where I could have done with being a few cm taller to see over the undergrowth.

My GPS also has me as running 8.02km, when the course was 8.5km. So I'm obviously cheating somewhere.

Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [3]

No warmdown in the driving rain and wind. Took 2hrs+ for my hands to regain feeling and colour.
